Are drummers "getting" lazy? lol
I don't really think so. I just find it weird that PT criticized KM when in fact The Who did absolutely nothing of note after KM left us. Which suggests that the touch and supposed weirdness of KM on the drums is what gave the music the magic touch ... where a conventional drummer (which happened when the son of ... sat in) did not help the music shine as it should have. PT and RD could still belt it out, but the explosiveness with KM just wasn't there.
Rock'n'roll has this thing that everything must be the same and about the 4 beats and being in time, when a lot of the experimental, progressive and jazz music has been about the opposite, and the only real issue is that ... the rock's version is the simplest thing to teach and learn, and unfortunately, most drum teachers can only give you the basics, and nothing but ... and teaching you to listen to the music and color it, is not a part of the curriculum, because you have to kiss the butt of the bass player and guitarist. I would do exactly what KM did on his "audition" to The Who ... walk in throw the drums around, and ask ... anything else? ... and the point is ... if you just want the same crap as anyone else ... go ahead ... but I guarantee you that getting noticed isn't going to happen as much as otherwise.
There is no such thing as the bass and drums have to work together ... look at an orchestra ... there isn't one instrument working with just one other ... for the most part ... and creating that for the sake of rhythm or some other crap, only means that you are not a dedicated musician that wants to learn music ... you just want to learn some chops to look good.
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
