Are lifetime updates coming back?
I was wondering if Lifetime updates were going to be offered again? I let my subscription run out in December. I should have renewed. I was not aware that I would not be able to get current updates and fixes once my subscription ran out. Am I right at assuming that the fee would be $199 a year in order to received updates and fixes? There have been several updates since my subscription ran out in December. Someone please let me know.

At this time there is no plan to bring lifetime updates back. I believe the going rate for Platinum is $199 per 12 month period.

We don't know. Only the people who run Cakewalk will know.

I would like to see them bring it back.
I know some peoples feelings were hurt because they bought it under the impression it was a one timer.
But wouldn't you want the same great deal to be given to others ?
I know I would.

And then faced heat from some for extending the offer that they originally said wouldn't be extended. Sometimes you can't win.

Honestly after they extended it last time to make the deal available to anyone for 6 solid months, not much sympathy for those that were existing customers that consciously passed it up this soon after the fact. (I'll point out that a number of posts were made pointing to the fact if you were a "producer or plat" owner you could have gotten the lifetime deal for $170, and on top of that even suggestions of zero interest for a full year credit cards one could sign up for if they didn't have the cash to afford it at the moment). I wouldn't have any hurt feelings if it isn't a one time deal. As a lifer, my main concern is what choice keeps the lights on at Cake and them developing the software. If they can do that offering the same great deal on a regular basis, wonderful....if they need to charge for the membership for those that missed out, then I support it.

I was unable to do it when it was offered. Now I'm hoping they can offer Lifetime deal again soon. If you think about it, it does put some users (like myself) in a dilemma. I have upgraded to Windows 10 64bit, and the last version upgrade I had was 8.5.3 Producer, which ran ok on my Win7 machine, but from what I'm told it will not install and/or run properly on Win10 64bit. So basically I'm unable to even use Sonar at the moment. If I knew for sure that Cakewalk would be offering Lifetime Upgrade deal again, then I would wait for that as opposed to spending $199 for only one year. Then there is the question... if I spent $199 for the one year and suddenly they offer Lifetime again, am I looking at having to pay another $199?

I think Bugs should be fixed for free. I mean, really if you're going to concede that this update fixes something, from a previous version, then anyone using something previous is using software that is broken or not working the way it was intended.
I suspect in reality, however, doing so would be futile for any developer because as Microsoft has learned, the molehill of users who choose to lag behind, will grow into a mountain of different configurations to maintain. This will prohibit new development, which will affect the bottom line of the company, who will then either go bust or raise the cost of the software. One way or another, the end user will pay for it.
I do believe they can develop some sort of tier pricing though, so that if your software is just a bit behind, you won't be paying as much as someone who hasn't updated ever. I can sympathize with the Developers, but that doesn't mean I believe they should profit from their mistakes at the expense of Users, who for whatever reasons they may have can't or choose, not to update. Just my opinion....
