Are these speakers good for use with Sonar X1?

I just bought Cakewalk Sonar X1 and a new pair of speakers as well.  These are the speakers that I am currently using:

http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Studiophile-Professional-Reference-Speakers/dp/B000SDLNKA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1301790751&sr=8-4

They are good but they seem way to bassy.  This is the first time I've used monitor speakers, but there is no bass adjustment on them so when I play the grand piano sound, for instance, it just sounds like it has too much of a bass sound to it.

Do all monitor speakers neglect the ability to adjust the bass?  Do you recommend another set or am I using a good pair of speakers?

Thanks,

Ryan

    Hello Ryan -

Monitors sound how they sound.  Adjusting the bass on the speaker will give you an artificial sound becuse it is controlled at the monitor and not with EQ in the recording process.
That said - high quality monitors cost thousands, but will be useless to you if you are recording in your garage!  Make some mixes, use another source (like your car audio or living room stereo) or pull in some pro recorded music and play with the eq till it sounds "right" and use that as a reference setting when you are recording/monitoring your own.

Ryan hello : go here and look at the rolling pictures see the
speakes with the white cones: yamaha NS-10.. they are tracking
monitors and have a very special sound or lack of depending on
whos listening, note the larger speakers Playback monitors..now
for 99.00 u get what ya pay for, as for the bass sounds see you eq
is set flat on the bass and you might have to go -3db on it, its very
rare in tracking that you ever boots bass..jon
