Are we officially done?

hi everybody. I just noticed a few pretty normal questions from two up to four weeks ago that had no response. Just wondering if the poor old v 700 units and our tight knit little group of devotees has gone the way of the steam engine? Would be sad if so. I do love my V 700...

It works great with my X3. If it's not supported by X4 there will be no upgrade for me because it is the center of my DAW setup and I don't have firewire, so I would have to sacrifice a lot to move away from it.

I certainly hope not - I likewise have learned my V 700 inside out and I am quite satisfied - we have to cross our fingers and see what they have up their sleeves and/or as commonly said what is baking in the oven....

There was talk about drivers and such for it going open source so they could be developed by people with programming knowledge to work with future releases of Sonar. Not sure what ever came of that though. I can't imagine they will stop supporting it in Sonar, but they may just stop future driver releases when new versions of Windows are released which I hope won't be the case.

I do not believe the drivers will be open sourced unless Roland decides to do it. The control surface software has been released here https://github.com/Cakewalk

FYI: a recent on a thread in the SONAR-X Series section concerning the integration of Integra-7, V-700(R)-built-in Fantom into a V-700-set-Sonar X3e environment: forum.cakewalk.com/Here-We-go-again-m3070056.aspx#3074140

I quote the Administrator Anderton: "For support, I assume you would want to contact Roland as the Integra, Fantom, and V-Studio are all Roland products."
Looking at the labeling of my V-700-C ("Cakewalk by Roland") and
forum.cakewalk.com/Sonar-X3e-Fantom-output-m3065665.aspx
and the end of forum.cakewalk.com/Windows-81-drivers-for-V-Studio-700-m2918667.aspx

I am a little confused ..

Can anybody enlight me...?

Hey Westside!  You know how this rolls brother!  We've been hanging out since the VS 1880 daze man!  Ha!  I'm happy- and making a living- with my VS700 but I suspect I could move along at some point.  I never invested in the 700C- so I've been using my 700R atypically.  I still invested about $1800- which is the most I've ever spent on a A/D unit.  I own an RME MultiFace II (bought it about 6 years ago) and have just recently put it back in action via ADAT into the VS.  I'm doing most of my mission critical A/D conversion with a Mytek and the MultiFace.  So, what I'm essentially saying, is the VS is not the most important part of my setup.  ...anyway, I've dug using it.  Rock on!

I do not have to much to contribute with when it comes to technical questions. I do not have nearly enough time with my studio and I guess that's why I do not pick up on all the smart solutions and workarounds that you guys seem to find no matter what the problem is. But regarding the vs 700, I am very pleased with it, I run it with X3 and can't remember the last time I had any problems. I use a combination of mouse, keyboard and the 700 console, and for me that is perfect, so even if it was better integrated with sonar I doubt I would use the console for everything. For some tasks it is better with envelopes than with faders. I use the vs 700 package plus an Octo Pre, Samson S-Phone headphone mixer/amp, two large screens, Genelec monitors and Sonar X3 as a base for the technician room, and all in all, this is the solution that covers all my needs for a studio. So hopefully the vs 700 lives on for quite a while even if it will be harder to find solutions to problems if new users have to figure out all the smart stuff the hard way. I certainly have picked up a couple of hints in this forum that have saved me from endless hours of frustration. Regards to all of you who take the time to share knowledge. It has been very much appreciated.

We'll know when Sonar X4 comes out in November! If it still supports VS-700, then we're not done because we'll be talking about what bugs if any are finally fixed or are still current.

btw: any bugs still unfixed?

It would be a shame if it not supported. It's a great piece of hardware. You think they would try to expand its use. That said. If it's not supported.....I'll be sticking with the "old X3"

The VS-700 is the greatest system ever for Sonar. It would get no better for users as a tailored system, unless Gibson comes out with a new console/audio interface combo. This VS-700 console is so futuristic and 21st century Star Trek technology that when they stop including the controller info in future versions of Sonar, than I'm done with Sonar. There's no way I'll be dumping this controller for anything else, unless a better console comes out that supports Sonar for about the same price.

Well, we've been merged into one big hardware group. This doesn't bode well.
Wonder is Roland will give us drivers for Windows 10 or not. :\

Also RE: fear for lack of Support.

On the driver side - Roland does a very decent job of driver support for it's products and tends to release drivers even for products that are no longer in active production. I can't imagine they would stop this trend, and for the 700R owners they can't sell you a fantom chip expansion if the unit won't work with your computer anymore.

On the control surface side it is true that we open-sourced all of the control surface plugins that we built. The 700C in particular is a great example of some of the additional functionality that can be added to a control surface (things like xray etc). We do not have any plans of dropping support for this in SONAR and there are actually a few geeks at Cakewalk that have been ninja-adding features to various control surface plugins and the SDK. Including a longstanding MCU bug with non-mackie controllers.

That's because it's coming out in November 2015. You didn't know that because you were so busy with the forum re-design you missed some emails.
