I've got SPLAT installed alongside Sonar by BandLab (SBL), but I only ever fire up BandLab now.
The other day I accidentally opened a project in SPLAT and midway through work, the project crashed...so I won't be doing that again.
I've had no issues with SBL.

SPlat for now: I've been busy with non-DAW things and just did the SPlat install (I was X3) a short while ago. When I get the chance, I will probably make the move to CbB. Seems that for the most part folks are happy with CbB.

Very happy indeed. I still bounce back to SPlat now and again, but only to compare against CbB if I run into any weirdness. But CbB has already instituted some enhancements that I miss in SPlat.

You'll find that migrating projects from X3 to CbB will require zero effort or anxiety. In the past, I'd always recommend that people finish current projects in the previous version of SONAR and start new ones in the new version. But if you're at X3 or later, there's no reason not to simply switch over, even ongoing projects.

There are actually 11. Gotta count those who understand binary but think in hex.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Splat - still finishing off a release.  Not that there is ANY problem with CbB. I believe that the product is positioned for great things in the future.  Its simple - when I start a project,  internet connection is turned OFF, and no updates are applied, till the work is finished. Bit once, never again.

Take care and for the U.S. members - hope all y'all have a safe and marvelous Independence day next week.  Keep the fingers and eyes away from the explosives.

Re: Are you using Platinum or Cakewalk by Bandlab 2018/06/28 16:21:13 (permalink)
Using both. Need previous version to get all of the content and goodies needed to complete t he package.  Have run both, but am leaning on the new Cakewalk by BandLab version.  I'm hoping that on a fresh install with the new CbB, the other goodies that we already have can be installed into it.  Will Cakewalk make provisions for this, or is it already possible?

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left...

CbB prompts for install paths and has done so for several releases.

I'm still using Sonar Platinum, It's been stable for me, I run it in Win10 and Win7.  I have dual removable hard drives wasn't sure how stable Sonar Platinum was going to be in Win10.  I'm currently sticking with Sonar in Win10 at the moment.  Unless some type of off-line install is made possible,  I will just stick with what I got.  Only thing I hate about this change is that I've been with Cakewalk since the DOS days. Hope they will still look into supporting the ones who install offline.  My music computer has no virus checker and I only use it to record with.  Don't want to put it online.

I'm running CbB. At first, I thought if there were any issues that were of a showstopper magnitude, I would flip back to my SPLAT instance. That just hasn't happened, so I'm just sticking with what works--but I also don't want to get left behind as new versions come out with bug fixes and new features - so again, it's CbB for me.

Running CbB. Do occasionally load SONAR to test for a post here. Now, with the shared utilities fixes and updates even those staying with SONAR would benefit from installing CbB

CbB. No issues with it.
I still have my Sonar Platinum installation loaded up as a custom DAW for recording the USB multiple outputs on my Roland Boutique drum machines (TR-08 and TR-09), just so I don't have to mess with disabling my main audio interface.
