I know some people that know some people that would probably agree.

I also know that I don't like seeing some of the negative stuff either.  I prefer to be happy (naively perhaps).

You and me both Craig. I figure people don't joke about people if they really don't like them. It is always hard to figure out sarcasm or a lot of things online because you can't see the smile. I find it MUCH easier to give people the benefit of the doubt.

My theory is they went surfing too near the center of the interweb and got swallowed by a black hole.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I agree Craig, happiness is a choice.  Negativity is to much work and to stressful.  "Half full", I say.

aaaaggh!! I did not mean it this way..I meant in terms of the forum becoming a humourless place.  When I get down on myself I tend not to want to step on someone else..kind of.

Don't worry..I will share, the type of 'sharing' I'm thinking about is more in line with generally kvetching...like we see upstairs sometimes..

I rarely read, what most of you write.  I'm consistently read, what some of you write.  I'm reading, who I think is fun, and cool.  The rest I ignore.

People are very negative in this world.  It usually brings them a sickened middle age, and an early death.

The Coffee House has had its moments where certain noxious fumes would empty the place for a while.  That's why we have exhaust fans now that we crank up on Chili Day.

So, do you come back inside hoping that no one decides to reenact the Blazing Saddles baked beans scene?  When you see the coffee pot labled, "Bromine", do you pass it up and have some Sumatra instead?

As Lt. Frank Drebin once said in the first Police Squad movie, "You take a chance just getting up in the morning or sticking your face in a fan."  I still think the Coffee House is a good place to relax, have some fun, and hang out from time to time.  I'm also not allowed near the fan.

I've read many others state that this was the nicest forum they ever visited- so...now I don't
know who to believe. Maybe it really doesn't matter.
Maybe it's something like a rain barrel that has a little leak. Maybe the little drops offer reasoning before their exit...the water's to cold...the water is to dirty...there's to much pressure down here...
Maybe Bubba would agree that maybe they're just upset at the whole world because they wanted
to be a big snowflake rather than a drop in the bottom of the rain barrel...

    Who'll stop the rain?
Long as I remember...the rain keeps coming down...

I'll never understand why some folk need to 'pretend' that they're something that they're not. Especially when it's completely apparent to everyone else that it's all bull.

Or why some people feel the need to talk boring, irrelevant drivel, (seemingly) just to get some attention.

Don't get me wrong, I can be as puerile as the next guy, but at least I hope that I try a put a bit of thought into it. It's one thing to act like a backward adolescent, another thing completely to give others the impression that you actually are one.

am i myself on the net?
Obviously for professional reasons some members need to remain anonymous  but some of us are in the phonebook!
I still start my day with the weather radar(hoping for rain or sun depending on the season) then email ,then the Coffee House but learnt a while ago to delay posting a reply  until i`m sure it`s as innocous as possible, make a second cup and by then the page has usually dropped out saving me another precious half an hour for the real world.
to me,the attraction of the Coffee House is you never know what will pop up next-it`s a bit like "Survivor:Forum" with the mods playing the Jeff Probst role.
    cheers

No, my real name is Steve Strummer aka Jesse Sammler.

No, not really, honest !  Whilst I'm not a believer in putting much in the way of personal info on the www, my "personality" is certainly the real me, like it or not.

As in real life, people sometimes take my sense of humour the wrong way, but I try not to worry too much about that. I don't set out to offend anyone, almost everything I say is meant in good spirit,  but if people choose take offence at anything I say, there's not much I can do about it really. Besides, it seems to me that there are those that actually want to be offended just so they can do the superior act, so in that case I've done them a favour and they should be grateful ;)

Live and let live. If I don't like someone I just ignore them. They're welcome to do the same if they don't like me.

Believe it or not, Ubiquitous Bubba was not the name I was given at birth.  Originally, I was Goldurn Idjit.  Adults can be cruel.

Anyway, I have no problem with assuming an alternate personality online.  In fact, my online personalities are a distinct improvement over the original.  I pointed that out to a friend of mine who reminded me that I wasn't exactly setting the bar very high.

I made the mistake of using an alternate personality in the physical world.  Just like the online version, my new persona was a vast improvement.  The next thing I knew, my family and friends were asking me why I couldn't be more like my faux self.  He was nice enough about it, of course.  He tried not gloat when people would tell him how much better he was at being me than I was.  He would offer to share some of his becan with me.

The situation wouldn't last.  In time, he created an alternate personality for himself.  While distinctly different from him, this new version was still far more likeable than I.  They shared a number of inside jokes I didn't understand.  Sometimes, it even seemed that they knew what the other one was thinking.  They would often take pity on me and try to make me feel included, but it was obvious that I just didn't belong with myselves.

Eventually, we went in for personality surgery.  I was removed and placed in a jar on a scientist's shelf next to the jar with the decaying frog.  I'm pretty sure the frog was insulted.  My jar collected a lot of dust.  Spiders started using industrial strength webs in an attempt to seal my jar off from the others.  In time, it was decided that my jar should be moved to an abandoned missle silo for security purposes.  I think the plan was to fill up the room with concrete just to be safe.  Unfortunately, there was a freak traffic accident enroute and my jar broke open.

Well, they obviously couldn't just let me loose on the general population like that.  My various selves were contacted and brought to an abondoned lab positioned on a cliff overlooking an abandoned amusement park that had been built on an ancient burial ground.  In the lab, I was reintroduced to myselves.  We were not all happy about that.  A hunchbacked man threw a huge switch, there was an absurd amount of electricity, a crazy man in a lab coat giggled uncontrollably, and I found myself back inside me.

We were not amused.  At first, I thought we might like me better once we got to know me, but I was wrong.  Since my other personalities are better versions of me, we tried to be mature about it.  Sure, there were a few harmless practical jokes, but we generally tried to tolerate me.

Where was I?  Anyway, I don't have any objections to assuming an alternate online personality.  We think it's rather harmless by comparison.  Me, too.

I see a slight paradox between the title and the content of the opening post. And it's reflected in some of the comments this far.
Pretending to be something you are not is one thing, being honest/ blunt is another.

We all here know the type who jumps in with zero homework done and expects to be spoonfed.
Those guys very likely get answers that offend them, and IMO, they deserve to be kicked in the butt a little. They go to another forum complaining the rudeness of SONAR forum, and that's OK with me.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
