Arrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhh!!!! Hit the wall again.
With my latest update from Waves (which added a few more VSTs). When oh when will SOANR be able to handle more than 735 combined VST/DXs? OK..... let the haters hate why I have more than 735 VSTs.

I am sure you are use to it by now :) Both the limit and the abuse Maybe that is why Wave has started carving out plug-ins to exclude from Mercury. They are trying to help you out.

Ed, I agree it is a pretty archaic limitation and I recently had to go through and exclude a bunch of Plugs after I purchased the Waves Gold Bundle. For clarification for those unfamiliar with Waves, Waves installs a Mono and Stereo (64-bit) VST and a Mono and Stereo (32-bit) version of the VST, so for every 1 Waves plug-in you install, there are typically 4 individual plugs associated with it. That can add up quickly. Simply re-arranging your Plug-In Menu does not rectify this issue. Personally, I need both 64 and 32 bit versions because I am using X2 64-bit for Mixing Audio, but I am still using 8.5 32-bit for MIDI as I prefer the workflow of 8.5 over X2 for MIDI. So the obvious solution may have been to go through and Exclude all the 32-bit Plugs;) The Plug-In Manager is long overdue for an overall. I agree with you 100%...... Regards

Yes, the plug-in handling in SONAR could use more updates. One thing that might help in the interim is not scanning the all the 32bit plug-ins in the 64bit instance of SONAR. For the 32bit plug-ins that must be included in the 64bit instance, break them out into a different directory.

Believe it or not, in SONAR 64 I do not scan 32bit versions if there is a 64bit version. I organized my 32bit plugs folder to have a 32bit Only folder which is what I include in my SONAR 64 scan. Yup, I'm a plug-ho.

I also hit that wall recently. In my effort to aspire to the state of BAPUness, I have got that message a few times in the last couple of months. In an effort toward full disclosure (ha ha), I hit that wall only when I include my 32bit vsts. The message I get indicates that some of my vsts may not show up until I do something like organize or arrange or deselect some of the plugins in my plugin "layouts".

@ SCOOK -Useful tip regarding splitting out Plug-in (32-bit vs 64-bit). I am just not that ambitious, i.e. re-installing plugs. In many cases you can't just move plugs from folder to folder, there are Registry Entries or other configurations that are affected. I am sure you know that, you seem to be a very knowledgeable person. Had I ever conceived of hitting this wall I probably would have done things a little different. Appreciate the idea... I am not a big complainer about features, functions, etc..regarding Cake Products, however, this is an area that I think should have been addressed long ago. I shouldn't have to re-arrange, re-install, Exclude Plugs, hide plugs, or whatever just to use the products I have purchased, including those add-ons that I have purchased from Cakewalk. It is really quite annoying to have not corrected this limitation with recent product updates. I am sure back in the day when they picked 735 as the number for the limit they all said, "who is ever going to use 735 plug-ins?" I remember back in the day hearing Bill Gates say, nobody will ever need more than 2MB of memory and a 10MB hard-drive and everyone said, "Yup he is right, that is a crazy amount of hardware." Regards

if you want 34247236484 (to the power of 7) plugins.. so be it ... malloc more memory captain ;-) what might be a nice idea also, have an option to rank the plugins by how much you use em. yep some plugs have mono, separate outs (kontakt) etc.. but well , I bet there are plugins gathering dust / cobwebs also waves keep emailing me, but I'll champion fab filter instead :) (and no I'm not getting paid by em)

Ed, may I suggest disabling the Waves and UAD MONO plugs? There really is no need for them. Sonar handles stereo plugs as mono on mono instruments so there is no need for ANYTHING mono really. I have all my Waves and UAD Mono's disabled and any plugs that come in with mono version disabled as well. It should cut down on your cap number considerably. Personally, I think you'd be better off without them. I know it's not for me to agree or disagree with, but personally and without offense, I see it as senseless and a total waste. The more crap you have on your machine that sits there "for the sake of" the more of a chance something can go wrong. If someone uses something that you don't have installed, it's easy enough to just install it. I don't keep anything on any of my recording boxes that doesn't get used. Now, I DO have specialty plugs that get used from time to time that may not be in the normal rotation, but it's rare I'll leave 25 different compressors on my box or a whole suite of stuff that never gets used. It's so much easier to navigate through my custom plug menus and after a while, if I see stuff that I don't use coming up...it makes me so sick I have to remove it. Something to think about. Though the Sonar limitation does suck....it's one that *I* use as "c'mon dude, if you're capping it's time to start cleaning house." I've capped one time....needless to say, I'm at about 456 right now and even there, I could stand to remove some more. -Danny

In the beginning I used several freebies. Today I can honestly say I only have 3 (or 4 tops) freebies that are 32bit only. And by freebies I mean the stuff that comes from off the wall sources (OI'm not including SPAN and such).
