Asio4all

I've been trying to get low latency with my built in soundcard but as we all know its pretty much impossible, until i found asio4all. It worked with my softsynths and vsts. It was also found in FLstudio. I've been trying to get it to work with sonar 6. However Sonar does not find it. Is there a way to guide sonar to the asio4all driver. In the friendly drivers section it just show my realtek. Also on the general tab in Audio it shows no asio4all.

Sonar should be used with an outboard soundcard for best results

This would be in Options / Audio / Drivers, right? No list?

Is the asio4all standalone configuration applet installed and working?

ASIO allows only 1 driver at a time, but even with another ASIO driver present, you should still see asio4all disabled in the list.

You have to first load up your asio4all before you start Sonar.

Nope its not there. Of and I know an outboard sound card is best but I am ordering the 1616m PCI later this week. Help does anyone know how to or has installed this driver. Sonar does not find it. I've delted the audio.ini and had it rebuilt and nothing. Yes the applet is working as i've configured it on my softsynths. help

Seeins as you are getting a proper audio interface the ASIO4ALL may not be the best solution for you. They work for convertin onboard audio to ASIO and for allowing multiple ASIO devices to operate at the same time. If you want to record with a POD via the USB digital outs and monitor through Sonar then the ASIO4ALL drivers are great.

If you want to experiment, install the ASIO4ALL drivers and enable your soundcard from within the main panel. Then in Sonar choose ASIO instead of WDM and then go to devices and enable all the ASIO4ALL ins and outs. Restart Sonar and you should be good to go.

I use Asio4All even with my outboard M-Audio 410 sound card. It helped solve a latency problem I had and I am not about going to try without it - for now.

Listen to DigiDis, I think he has knocked the problem on the head.

I think you should change Sonar to ASIO and then close it. Reopen Sonar and you should then get ASIO4ALL in the device list. While Sonar is using WDM/KS, ASIO4ALL cannot run which would explain why it doesn't show straight away - you have to switch Sonar away from WDM/KS first. You also have to make sure that nothing is using that Microsoft GM software synth for midi which will also stop anything from using WDM/KS.

Incidentally, ASIO4ALL is using WDM/KS and acts as an adapter between a program that's using ASIO and the existing WDM driver. Therefore, there is no inherent reason for it to be any better than WDM/KS already is .

It's very important when profiling the driver in the first place for WDM/KS that Sonars latency slider is pulled to minumum and that "Buffers in Playback queue" = 2 BEFORE running the profiler. For some reason, when Sonar is installed it profiles with the latency slider at a high "safe" setting, which will never give you the lowest latency possible. ASIO drivers on the otherhand, don't get affected by the slider, so to many users must seem like the lowest latency option - even when, with ASIO4ALL, it still really is WDM/KS!

And is ASIO4ALL works better than an interfaces own ASIO driver - boy, that must be one badly written ASIO driver!

Yes, I know it's upside down.

I've never had anything but bad results when I had ASIO4ALL drivers installed, but then I never used my onboard soundcard. With my Echo Indigo I/O laptop soundcard they would just freeze the system completely, and with my new DAW and a MOTU Ultralite, SONAR didn't recognize any drivers *except* ASIO4ALL (which got installed when I wasn't paying close enough attention to the FLS install dialogues).

I would never try ASIO4ALL drivers again unless I had absolutely no other choice.
