Assignment of notes to midi channel
Does anyone know a way to move more than 1 note at a time to a different midi channel? When I open the piano roll view and draw in notes, they go to the wrong midi channel- seems to be channel 1 by default. For example, I have my midi track set to ch. 7, and the piano roll view setting set to 7 also. Why then do my notes go to channel 1. This creates control problems with my DXI synths. So I have to go manually move the notes ONE BY ONE to the right midi channel. Please tell me that in a top-of-the-line program there is a way around this - that there is a way to edit the midi channel of more than 1 note at a time, or to draw the notes into the channel I want them in. I have installed the latest updates. Using Producer 4. thanks,

I don't know how to change the setting of drawn notes but you can change it in the event list for the track after they are entered.

Yea, that's what I've been doing. You can only change them ONE NOTE AT A TIME. But it's such a tedious way to do it.

When I open the piano roll view and draw in notes, they go to the wrong midi channel- seems to be channel 1 by default. It is possible to mess around with individual note channel assignment in a single track, but I don't know an easy way. It's also hard to keep track of what's what. I think that generally speaking, Sonar expects a track to be set to a fixed MIDI channel. This is usually the easiest way to work. You can move the assignment of every note in a track in one hit if you do it in the Track View pane for any channel. If you want to move only some notes to a different MIDI channel then do it by selecting the notes you want to shift, (probably easiest in piano roll with a CNTRL Click?), and then cut and past them into a new track and set the new track to the new MIDI channel. Hope this helps, Cliff

Actually to add .... Open both midi channnels in the piano roll. you will see both midi channels on the right side of the window. Select the source midi channel. Now selected all MIDI notes that want to move. Cut the notes(ctrl X ) , select destination midi channel that you see in the same right top corner. Paste. The color of your midi notes should change reflecting the change of channel. HTH, rhythmeus

I think what you want is to have each newly drawn note on the correct channel. If that is the case what you do is draw the first note in, right click the note to bring the note properties dialogue up, edit the note info eg. channel number and go ok. Next left click the note, all additional notes that you draw will be exactly the same paramaters as the one that you clicked on. Simply what happens is that Sonar picks up the info. of whatever note you click on and uses that as paramaters for the rest.

The fastest way to change all notes in a batch process is to use interpolation. Select all events then interpolate and change only the midi channel bow entry. Box ^

Box ^ Bumping an old thread as I just had an ongoing issue (user not RTFM) and resolved it! Thanks, bso! If you need to change the channel number of a group of midi notes in the piano roll window, use the "Interpolate" feature. Before, I use to have to change each note one-by-one or copy the notes to a new midi track. - Select the notes you want to change. - Right click and select "Interpolate". - In this box, you're going to enter search criteria. Do nothing as you want all of your selected notes to be changed. Click "OK". - Now you're looking at the "Replace" box. This is where you'll choose what you want done to your selected notes. On the right, underneath the "All Non-Special Events", change both of the "Channel" fields (Min and Max) to the destination channel where you want your selected notes to be. Click "OK". That's it! Easy. You can check by right clicking on one of the notes that you moved.
