I had some excellent and beautiful times on magic mushrooms, I always felt like they were cleansing me psychologically. And I always felt fantastic the next day. However:
1) I also had the worst trip of my life on mushrooms. My mind went completely blank for 4 or 5 hours. I just didn't feel a damn thing, not happiness or sadness or fear or confidence or wonder or irritation or anything. Just absolutely nothing. It was awful...but I didn't realize that it was awful until my feelings came back. If that makes any sense.
2) I had the strongest trip of my life 10 years ago back when I lived on Nantucket. After a night on the town I ended up back at the house of a couple of older hippie dudes and one of them gave me a small handful of mushrooms. I laughed and told him I was used to eating 100-200 of them, not six. He just said shut up and eat them. To this day I have no idea what they were but that was some wild Jim Morrison-esque experience. They were hysterically funny dudes and the guy whose house it was had the most awesome vinyl collection. What a great night.
3) The most disgusting mushroom experience was back in '95 or so when a friend had been "picking" in the Lake District and came back with a huge trash bag full of them. He put a big pile on the kitchen table and we made some tea. An hour later when I was frolicking in another universe, I ventured into the kitchen on my own and started munching from the pile. I must have eaten 50 or so before I looked closer and noticed there were maggots in them. All of a sudden I thought I could feel them wriggling around in my stomach and it was kind of a bummer.
