So, it doesn't work?
That message usually means that you've selected a driver mode, sampling rate or bit depth that the sound card doesn't support. Did the wave profiler run when you opened SONAR the first time?
Under Options>audio, what is listed for Driver mode, sampling rate, bit depth, playback and recording timing masters (devices) and what drivers are selected?
What is your operating system and is it 32- or 64-bit? What model is the instrument to USB device?
I think you will get a more satisfactory recording experience by getting an audio interface designed for recording and ditch the instrument to USB thing. Depending on the device. Some newer ones are 2-way, meaning the are real sound cards with ins and outs and can be used to monitor the recording and playback.
Older, one-way devices cause problems since you have to use 2 sound cards, one for input and one for output, and that can cause synchronization problems.
