Audio Dropout
Anyone else getting audio dropouts after the latest update? Even on a new project, it drops every 30 seconds. Or any other reasons? Thanks.

I'm also using the Focusrite 2i2 (see my signature for config) and I just played back a project with about 12 VST instruments and had no dropouts.
Knowing a little about your setup may help.

ASIO (Focusrite USB ASIO OUTPUT 1) As I saw in another recent forum post, it started right after I downloaded the update. Restarting the studio engine is somewhat common, since it may stick sometimes, but I was fine all day while running IKA4 on multiple tracks. After updating, I cant play a dry DI guitar for more than 30 seconds. I use a lot of amplitube 4 with guitar through a DI box, and addictive drums 2. Along with a lot of waves plugins. Thanks

I run a Focusrite Saffire Pro 56 and man does it have issues I am presuming due to the fire wire interface. I run a non-TI fire wire chipset card and regularly have enough issues with it all to consider changing interface as good as the Saffire is. This fire wire card worked flawlessly with the MOTU 8Pre however. The previous 700R interface was ROCK SOLID in comparison....so yes, also seeing regular audio drop outs here too running a Saffire albeit fire wire interface. Buffer fiddling did make things usable but insane latency when recording with plug ins enabled such as amp sims etc. ASIO was the most usable with ASIO4ALL quite unusable. Never had issues like this before but otherwise, all is pretty solid. Not sure if this helpful at all...cheers.

I have had this issue since the latest update. Focusrite 2i4. Hoping the update to the update that I'm downloading now is a fix for it.

Mully, you're absolutely right. Focusrite needs to update drivers for their discontinued Saffire (and similar) products. Last night, I switched to my Alesis Master Control interface (which I had only been using as a DAW controller) and VOILA! Cakewalk is stable as a solid 50-ton rock! I get that the series of products is discontinued, but considering how good they are, I would hope Focusrite would continue updating drivers at least until the next major revision of Windows. For now, my Pro 40 is turned off. :-(

I suspect this is an issue with the 2nd gen scarlett drivers. I've used CbB 2018.07 on 3 machines with a 2i2, 6i6 and 18i20 (all 1st gen interfaces) pretty heavily over the past month, and it's been rock solid for me on all machines at the lowest latency (1ms). It's a bit early to tell with CbB 2018.08 build 32, but so far it's not given me any issues. The first thing I'd try, is re-installing the Focusrite drivers. This may fix it, or you never know, this could be another Windows 1803 issue that's come to the surface with some minor Windows update. If the problem still persists, try contacting Focusrite. They've released beta drivers for specific issues in the past, so you may get some joy out of them.

I love my Saffire Pro 40 but, I have been having problems since at least May of 2017. It has gotten worse as time went on. I assumed it might be my firewire card so, I bought a new one (one of the main ones that Focusrite recommends) and, it didn't help at all. I borrowed a friend's USB interface and everything worked great with Cakewalk! (Interestingly, the Saffire has always worked fine with Studio One.) I spoke with Focusrite and told them I believe a Windows 10 update broke the use of my Saffire Pro 40 with Cakewalk since they haven't updated the drivers since 2015. They told me that my device has been discontinued and there will be no updates for it. That's pretty crappy, as far as I'm concerned, considering there are so many Saffire products out there and, many people love them. However, whadda ya gonna do?? I really like the sound of my Focusrite and their price/feature/performance. So.... I just bought a Scarlett 18i20, USB interface.

Focusrite has responded to my query about drivers. Basically, if you own a Saffire or similar product, you're toast because, as many of you have noted, changing FireWire cards hasn't helped a darn bit lately: We appreciate the feedback, and I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, there are no further updates planned for the Saffire range of products since they are discontinued. However, most issues with Saffires on a Windows computer come down to the Firewire card that is being used. I don't expect you to have any issues if you are using a tested and compatible Firewire card (see link below for more details). https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207546925-How-can-I-tell-if-my-FireWire-ports-are-compatible-with-the-Saffire-range-I hope that helps, and let me know if you have further questions. Best regards, Focusrite Technical Support Engineer

OK, here's where I'm at now.... I have eliminated firewire altogether. I bought a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (USB). Well, guess what.... I still have the same problems. So basically, at this point I have bought a new computer and a new interface just to try to get Cakewalk working properly for me. I'm getting pretty skeptical that I am ever going to get that. I'm totally out of ideas at this point. And, once again, through all of this, Studio One works perfectly. As much as I hate the idea, it's looking like I may have to bite the bullet and make the switch to Studio One. I mean, I've really tried here but, it just doesn't seem to be working out.

Rodreb, I know it is frustrating when one DAW apparently has no problems while another is struggling. Because it suggests that the problem is not hardware. In my case, Studio One was the DAW with the problem - it refused to recognize my USB MIDI interface! Sonar of course had no problems at all. That said, I have used a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 USB (2nd Gen) with Cakewalk By Bandlab with no noticeable issues, but of courses so many variables. One thing I did was map out the USB controllers in my system and gave the audio interface its own dedicated hub. There are a couple of utilities that can help you do this. It may make a difference.
