Audio Dropout - transport not moving

About 15 months ago Jim Roseberry built me an absolutely killer PC that has been extremely reliable and fast. Never an issue with the dreaded an "Audio Dropout Has Occured" (ADHO) dialog. About a week ago I started getting them intermittently...the issue is the transport in not moving and I'm not playing back audio.

Here's what is different: About a week ago I decided that I want to start writing my own libraries for Kontakt using their KSP scripting language. The other thing that is different is two weeks ago I installed a UA 4-710D pre which is connected to my RME UFX via ADAT.

Here's what's been happening: I'm in Kontakt hosted by SONAR and I'm writing script - no audio is being played back nor am I sending any MIDI information. I'm just writing script. The ADHO dialog will pop up randomly on occasion. I thought it might be that I had turned the 4-710D unit off but turning it back on doesn't seem to solve the issue as the ADHO dialog can reoccur.

My curiosity is about this is more than my irritation: how can an audio dropout occur if audio isn't being played back? Anyone have any ideas what might be the source of this? My guess is it is coming from the 4-710D but I can't reproduce it. I have yet to get the dialog when the transport is moving...it always happens when I'm writing Kontakt script.

Regards,

Mike

I'm guessing here but if you are getting an audio dropout while not playing I would think that the audio engine is turning off while the transport is stopped.

Try checking "Playback effect tails after stopping" in Preferences->Audio->Playback & Recording. That will help stop that.

Thanks FBB I'll look into that. My immediate thought is that may not be the solution because in some cases I haven't played any audio back yet...all I'm doing is opening Sonar, toggling to my docked Kontakt page and writing some code...
