Was there any new software installed on the laptop recently? Like Quicktime 7 or anything else that might have changed the configuration?

What do you mean "the files will play"? If the Sonar projects are playing, then the audio engine should be engaged.

You can try the old standby of backing up aud.ini, deleting it, and having Sonar re-create it.

First thing I'd tell him to do is to log on the Internet, join this forum and post all of his hardware specifications. It would be easier than doing it through a 3rd party.

You should also check and see if there is not a old or new plug in that has turned problematic.

I have found that this is the most common course for the Audio Engine in Sonar refusing to run.

Try re-installing SONAR--it won't hurt but it could help.

    thinking over 3 corners here..
but as you mentioned in earlier posts that you wanted to burn your projects to cd and share with a friend, who is also staying with S2..
did you make sure that you included the audio files ? Or did he remove these files ? Any errormessages when opening the projects ?
    2nd thought:
I believe you/he either made a wrong configuration in the audio-options within sonar, or the output of the soundcard is muted (either hardware based on the laptop (functionbutton: mute) or in windows itself.

Hi RE- sonar 4 producer edition-
For some reason I am unable suddenly to create a Bundle file.
I have tracks with 7 or 8 midi tracks and all I'm trying to do (like I've done numerous times before) is mix it all down into a Bundle file. It doesnt record anything.
All that has changed recently is that I have changed some of the settings in audio options to stop the "drop outs".
I have put everything back where it was and been through all the trouble shooting excercises in the help section but it still won't record the midi tracks onto a audio tack.
I also tested recording audio with a mic and it records audio fine like that.
Any HELP would be great!!!!! I'm tryng to finish my album here!!

well the reason i'm posting this on his behalf is because he knows nothing about this sort of thing. Ok, when i loaded a project on sonar the audio engine button would not stay depressed, then when i pressed play the timeline was moving fine but there was no sound, also, the meter bars in the audio tracks weren't moving even though the levels were fine, the soundcard is not muted cause the sound from windows media player was fine, does sonar have a mute button that i don't know about. he says he didn't change any of the settings and no new programmes have been installed. hope that helps a bit

Tell him to use a Restore point a few weeks ago when everything was working ok.

He didn't upgrade his Windows installation in any way via autoupdate?

When I had these exact symptoms, it turned out to be because the "Input Sync" in the Audio setup was not assigned. As soon as I assigned it to the soundcard, no problemo.

Not that we're talking about the same thing I don't think, I'm in tye middle of someone elses conversation here but my problem turned out to be a couple of boxes on the soundcard control had "unchecked" themselves after a windows update, simple as that, thankfully.

Bypass all your plugs on all your tracks and put em back 1 by 1.

    This sounds like your symptoms?

The audio engine won't start when I start playback- no sound coming from any tracks but now time advances. Audio Engine button is grey and does nothing when clicked. Reset button does nothing. Record on track strip will not enable. Record on transport is greyed out. Restart Sonar does nothing. Reboot machine does nothing. I tried several projects - even tried switching interface hardware.

It happened to me in PE 4.04 - the solution was to uncheck the MUTE ALL button in the Windows Mixer control. It was and remains a mystery how it got checked - I chalk it up to FM (F'n Magic ).

Unfortunately, I have a similar problem NOW in PE 6.0 for which that is not the solution. It seems to stem from changing the sample rate between projects (48K vs. 44.1K). I had a number of switches that worked over the last few weeks but that's all over now (baby blue).

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    TIA

OK - now my 44.1K projects are working but I can't get my 48K project to play - the Audio Engine button just stays greyed out. Anything special about the sample rate?

I solved my problem by abandoning the WDM driver and going to ASIO (using ASIO4All to see how that works). At least my 48K project plays now.
