Audio Interface

Hi i am having trouble with latency. I am running cubase 5 on my mac pro with a slave pc connected with vep. I'm having to run a pretty high buffer to avoid clicks and pops because of a lot of instruments i have loaded. I currently have an edirol ua-25 and pretty much all my recording is done with midi, very little to no live recording.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a sound card that could handle a greater workload? I've looked into MOTU and RME but it seems the higher end cards all have plenty of mic inputs which on me would go to waste when what i need is a card that can just handle the midi instrument side of things. Would one of the newer Roland interfaces be suitable?

Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have been doing some research and have settled on MOTU. I have a question tho that will help me decide which model i will purchase.

Is there much difference between the models in latency when composing with virtual instruments? The higher end models like the 828mk3 offer more features for live recording compared to the audio express, but with a massive template of VST's loaded would there be much difference in performance between these?

I'm deciding between the audio express or maybe the mk3 hybrid but i just don't want to pay for a more expensive model if a cheaper one will be suitable to my predominately VST needs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Since you're Cubase user, I suppose you could get someone to answer if you post @ Steinberg forums.

Cubase does have an option named as "Lower Latency" (least the PC version has). What it does when enabled is the playback latency is tighter. If you disable this feature, it may help a bit on latency issues.

Also remember that you don't need low latency while mixing the project. You mentioned using massive template of VST's ... you sure know there's a performance limit on every PC/Mac system ... .

IMO, MOTU hybrid is the best choice.

Why would you come to the Cakewalk forum (which is mostly pc) to ask about Cubase on a mac?  Seems like a way to not get an answer, tho Junski is obliging.

Because you cannot log on to the Cubase forum without registering.
It is a system that was talked about here. That way only registered owners can participate in the forum.
