Audio Snap & Drum Tracks

I've never played with audio snap, but I'm wondering if it would easily be able to align real drum tracks to a click track at the project tempo? For studio recordings I normally give our drummer a click track to keep his drums synced up to the project tempo in case we add any instruments or effects that are tempo based. He's good at keeping time for him self, but he's some times speed up a bit during heavy passages where he's feeling the vibe, and he'll then have to adjust his speed slightly to get back in sync with the click. He only ever goes half a beat out at most. The point is that him trying to follow the click so closely is distracting him some what, so he's not able to play with so much feeling. At the moment we prefer him to drift off slightly and keep the vibe going. Of course half a beat of timing error is not noticable in the final production, but if we use any tempo based delay, that can be an issue.

So I'm wondering if audio snap could be used to put his drums back on click or correct any dropped beats, so that he can just get on with playing with out having to worry about drifting off slightly. For most of our recordings it doesn't matter as the amount of drift isn't noticeable, but for some recordings it might be useful, and I thought it may also be able to other slight problems such as dropped beats, with out having to do a retake or drop in. Also for the most part I don't want the drums to sound too mechanical and perfect.

We normally have 4 or 6 tracks for the drums. So I'm kind of wondering if there is some technique where audio snap can line up the beats on all tracks, quickly and easily while maintaining a percentage of humanisation?

I was wondering the same thing.  I've been using Melodyne to quantize drums.  Works o.k. but you usually have to manually move some of the notes.

That's part of what it can do - I use it often to sort small drum parts out. But, as I always say, the DAW is not God, it's a tool with limitations. Sometimes it's better to replay if it's too far out. Check the tutorials on Audiosnap though, as it can be a bit of a learning curve to get good results.

Cheers. Yea my DAW isn't god. It's satan! If a take is too bad I retake it any way. Just wondering what audio snap can do.

The two options are using Audiosnap's Set Project from Clip command on one of the tracks (probably the kick) after cleaning up the transient markers or using Set Measure/Beat at Now (Ctrl-M) to align the time ruler at specific points as needed. Both of these methods align the time ruler to the existing tracks by creating a tempo map. Individual audio tracks and the sync between them ae not altered in any way.

Both methods require a significant amount of jiggery-pokery to get good results. Ultimately, though it might seem more labor intensive, I find Set Measure/Beat at Now method much easier and more reliable.

I'm having some trouble grouping the drum tracks together so that they will all snap together as I audiosnap one of them. I selected all of them and created a selection group from the selected clips, but it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks
