Audio Tracking Question

Quick question that I should know the answer to....

When I am tracking an audio performance and the audio channel/track has inserted effects (EQ, COMP), do the effect get printed to the audio file or just the raw audio?  Are the effects impact being recorded as well?

Thanks,
Jim

It means you can alter the FX afterwards, which is nice.  Unless you bounce down or freeze, the audio is still processed online through the FX.

Perfect and thanks for the response!!!! My concern was I am tracking thru hardware HELIOS channel strips and I also have the UAD Helios on the tracks for mixing....  pretty interesting setup (I have a DI and an mic'ed amp recording)... got some hollow sounding MIDs and wasn't sure if they were coming from the real world audio chain or being introduced during tracking by the plugins.

We had a massive fight over this a couple of weeks ago, I didn't read the question correctly (I worded my answer badly and was wrong), so the above information is correct.

If you get an Apollo box from Universal Audio, you can print to track. That is the only way to print fx during tracking in a Windows based environment, that I know. Somebody may know of another approach.

    Hollow sounding Mids?

I may be misunderstanding your post (it happens a lot on here), but could it be a phase issue between DI and a mike track?

    Just a thought..

JB101 - exactly.... I played around sliding one of the tracks to see if I could remove the hollow sound but it stayed there and I could hear introduced phasing.... I think it has to do with me playing too much with the external EQ (trying to sculpt the sound too much).

I just wanted to eliminate the thought of the FX being printed to the audio track while tracking.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Have you tried hitting the phase button to invert phase?

It's not something I've used, so someone else may say it's wrong, but maybe worth a try...

    Hope you sort it.

JB101.... my external Helios channel strips have a phase invert and I have tried with it on and off.. I do think however, that the fact that the mic and speaker path is getting to the audio DAW after the DI is... but, I might have more than one issue here and I think I need to make sure that the recordings are sounding correct first and then check them against each other for phase issues....

    Thanks for your thoughts,
    Jim

I think we are in different times zones physically or otherwise, as I'm just off to bed.

Having read your posts even more carefully, and having had a brief look at your site I am intrigued, but must leave it 'til morning;  Morpheus awaits.

I'll look in tomorrow if I have any ideas.  PM me if you have any developments.

    Jonathan.
