Audio dropouts in Sonar

Hi guys!I have a new HP with vista and Sonar6.All I wanna do is just record some audio using only a small mixer as an interface.Sometimes it lets me,but mostly it's dropouts.What's the problem?

    Its your settings and probably your cheap onboard soundcard. Is your mixer a digital interface. you really need to list all your pc specs and soundcard specs/type. also list the driver mode your using. sorry this is so vaige, but your qustion needs to be more direct.

    thank u CJay.I have inbuilt Realtec sound card and a cheap Behringer mixer hooked up to the mic.input.I have 2GB RAM.I am a beginner,so I thought-the simplier,the better.Should I get a nicer soundcard?

    YES. the realtek is not designed for recording.

    HOWEVER - I have not updated my list to include cards that are known to have drivers that work with VISTA and that has been a big problem lately, so before you buy anything make sure it has VISTA compatible drivers!
