Audio files taking lots of memory ? help

hi everyone i am working with lots of audio files in this project and i am wondering if bouncing down or anything can reduce the memory use on the PC ?
i am thinking maybee raw audio files can be converted inside sonar and be smaller or something !

Any thoughts ?

Thanks

We have since 10 years constantly projects with up to 80 hours in timeline and 50 to 100 GB audiofiles in thousends of clips, because we digitaze and restore tons of tapes and vinyl.
We never had a problem with the memory.
Only the drawing of the waveforms make sometimes problems in large projects.
Cakewalk is the best audioeditor for large projects with many audiofiles.
Converting files will not reduce the memory.

We digitize tapes, vinyl, dat, md ... in broadcast and studio quality for publishers, public institutions and individuals.
    4 x Intel Quad-CPU, 4GHz Sonar Platinum (Windows 10 - 64Bit) and 14 computers for recording tapes, vinyl ...

    4 x RME Fireface 800, 2 x Roland Octa Capture and 4 x Roland Quad Capture, Focusrite .... Studer A80, RP99, EMT948 ...

    Hi ,

Iam at 8gb in Windows task manager ( sonar platinum ) for a project and approx 33% memory , everything is fine for now just thought I'd ask the question on any tips that lower that memory amount ?

What about bouncing vsts to audio then freezing the synth will this reduce Memory ? i have loads of vst midi tracks which I need later on after my audio work ,is there a way to shut these down but still keep them in the project ?

    Thanks

Resourcewise, playing back audio is the easiest job there is in SONAR.
As for the VST FX and soft synths: Freeze, bounce, Apply FX, archive (if it still exists?) are all methods to
lower the load on memory. Also, you can bypass FX during tracking, and enable them during mixing and
simultaneously increasing buffer size. Some may use FX with low CPU or memory load during tracking, and replace them with the more demanding ones when mixing.

Just read the manual. It's all explained there.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I agree with Kalle. Keep an eye on the amount of plugins and VST's and you should be fine.  If something is resource hungry freeze or bounce and then keep it moving. That way resources will not distract you from the true business of making music.

I sometimes freeze midi tracks that I am done working with (especially drums), which seems to help my performance.

I suggest that you research optimizing your DAW for music production. As a matter of fact, google on that exact phrase  "optimizing...production" and you will get a lot of info on how to make the best use of your box using Sonar. Some tweaks are easy and carry no danger: Such as moving processes from the foreground to the background, or what power scheme you are using (many computers are pre-set to use a minimum of power, which you don't want using Sonar). Also, projects can be kept on a second internal hard drive that differs from where the Sonar app is installed. On the other hand, some tweaks involve registry changes or allocating virtual memory, which makes some folks nervous. Do whatever is in your comfort zone. Some simple changes can make a big difference.

Also, I suggest you put your computer OS/processor/memory/speed/graphics card and other music-related info, such as audio interface etc. in your forum signature if you plan on asking any more technical questions on the forum...It helps us a lot to be able to see that when answering questions!

    Ok thanks guys ,

I am going to open task manager and as I freeze each plugin I am going to find out which are the hungry beasts !
Then I will also know for future reference ..

As for track fx is there a difference in ( memory / pc load ) using sonars sonitus Dx versus 3rd party - see I love sonitus gate , compressor , and reverb and use the Dx version heaps ( along with heaps of other plugins ( I just thought Dx versions inside sonar would be less of a hog ?

Anyways I have optimised Windows 10 for daw , including the send to background processors ,in settings along with as much as I am comfortable with , though I hear what your saying and know there's a lot more that could be tweaked !

I have tried a few times to find the actual place where I can add my specs to my forum signature but can not find where to put that info - I will have another look now through the menu then through the user panel , maybe I will find it today !
