Audio issues once again. :(
I wouldn't know where else to post this...haven't ventured above the songs forum in so long, I don't even know what's up there. (they're all minimized on my laptop.) Anyway, this is so weird I'm not sure I can even explain it... You may remember me saying that if I listen to WMP, then go right back to Sonar, I have to hit Alt O, U, enter to get my Sonar project to the right tempo and key (it wants to speed up.) That's clicking on Options > Audio > enter, which doesn't seem to really be DOING anything, but it does. So, here's the deal. I had a quartet in here recording yesterday. I sent them the mp3 and they said it's too slow and 1/2 step low. I checked Sonar and sure enough, they're right. I played something in WMP, then clicked back in Sonar and it's back in the right key and speed. So I tried exporting it again and it's still too slow. :( Obviously it recorded correctly (at least I think it did...maybe it didn't!), but I can't figure out how in the world to export it correctly. IOW...if I open up Sonar and play it, it's too slow and too low. If I listen to WMP first, then play it in Sonar, it's right.

Do both SONAR and WMP play through the same audio interface?

It sounds like WMP is lowering the sample rate of your sound card. You need to make sure your sound card is set to the same sample rate as your project in Sonar. Another thing you can do is, if you get the project to play normally, but it won't export properly, try doing the export in real time so you can hear it as it's exporting. To do this in X1 you go to 'File' ~ 'Export' ~ 'Audio' then uncheck 'Fast Bounce'. Then another box becomes available and you would check 'Audible Bounce'. Not sure if it works the same on the version you are using.

Thanks Jan! That IS your name, right? Or you were calling me Jan, like a couple of people in the world do. Sorry..can't remember... Greg...yeah...the headphones or the monitors. Is that what you mean? Bub---yeah, audible bounce. I'd forgotten about that possibility. How do I change the sample rate of my sound card?

you have to open the software for your soundcard to change the sample rate of the soundcard. I suspect you have windows set up at one sample rate and sonar at another. in the CONTROL PANEL in the SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES there are sample and bit rate parameters taht you can set for your soundcard. it probably is set to 48k there and you probably have 44.1k in Sonar.

Thanks Reece. I think that was the case, as I saw 48k somewhere. (and changed it.) I can't wait till you upgrade to Win7 so your instructions fit my set up. But I did finally find it. :) Still have the issue, but maybe it will go away when I reboot. I'm trying to export it in real time now.

if you've set everything to 44.1k then it shouldn't need audible bounce, tho I don't know why it wouldn't do that.

Robert, you have the right to remain silent .... Janet, Yeah it sounds like you have sample rate setting issues. What you didn't mention was how you are creating the MP3? Are you exporting from CW as an mp3 using the purchased encoder, or do you export as wav and then convert the wav to mp3 using another application?

I'm sure she's creating the mp3 by using LAME.exe which is accessed from her menu as a tool inside sonar (because I helped her with a problem with that recently!)

Is this what you wanted to see? Where it says 48000 Hz, it won't let me change that. I'll try to find where it DID seem to let me change it before and post that.

Also, what about that exclusive mode that's checked? Is that why I have issues changing between WMP and Sonar?

maybe the combination of that checkbox and sonar being open and the 48000 that you can't change. try unchecking that box, close sonar, reopen that window and see if you can change that setting to make it 16bit/44100Hz instead of 24bit/48000. edit: more thought - you still didn't show us your ECHO software. upon furhter thought, you probably can't change that drop down box in windows because the echo software has it locked at 24/48k. open your echo software and show us the options available for it.
