Audio issues with power studio - NOW SOLVED!
Hi, I've had and been using power studio for about 2 years problem free until my pc got old and died. Have new pc running 64bit vista, 6 core cpu and 4gig 1600 ram, have reinstalled power studio and the sp25 usb interface drivers plus asio4all but I cant do anything. I cant select the sp26 even though its listed and I also cant selet asio drivers as nothing happens, in fact loading up sonar doesnt even bring up the asio4all system tray icon. I can load ezdrummer solo and get that all working correctly with asio4all and and the sp26 as playback or my onboard soundcard. why is sonar refusing to work? any help much appreciated.

why are you using ASIO4ALL? the SP25 should have native ASIO drivers. go to the edirol/roland website and download the latest vista 64 drivers, install them. then make sure you've either uninstalled asio4all or at least de-select it from the driver pull down list in sonar. you didn't mention which version of sonar, so I'm not sure exactly which menu option to tell you, but ~2 years you're probably on Sonar 7 or 8, so it would be OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVERS or similar where you find the menus for selecting the drivers.

thanks for replying. On my old PC the sp25 stopped working and required the asio4all driver to work, which it did problem free for 2 yrs. Im using sonar power studio. do you know what the sp2500 is callled on either endirol or rolands site as I cant seem to locate it. When I do try and change the audio driver in sonar selecting asio doesnt bring up the asio control panel like it used to. If i exit without saving and go back into sonar the wm drivers are selected pressing ok just to accept this just refreshes the settings box you have to press cancel for the box to disapear.

Beagle here ya go http://www.cakewalk.com/download/hwdrivers.aspx?Prod=SPS-25 Thanks but I've already got that driver installed. A odd thing is no playback master can be selected. sonar see's the sp25 interface for recording master but thats all. It still wont let me change drivers from the default and even if you change nothing and click ok to accept the default the dialoge box just flashes you have to press cancel to go back into sonar. out of desperation ive installed audacity and reaper and they work fine (except some clipping in reaper), obviously Audacity doesnt do everything I need and I fine reaper confusing so would love to get sonar working. any help :(

try the WDM driver mode. I'm betting that's what Audacity and Reaper default to anyway.

Yeah thats what I thought but it just wont let you change the driver in the options. It concerns me that it wont detect the sp25 for playback master either. I've tried reinstalling sonar power studio using 32 and 64 bit versions but both have the same issue, also if i do use 32bit sonar it wont let me load 32 bit sp25 driver it forces me to use 64bit. thanks for all your suggestions and help so far by the way.

well, there's some problems there for certain. but if you have the 32bit version of the Edirol drivers loaded on your system then that might be what's causing the problem. you shouldn't load 32bit drivers for the soundcard on the 64bit win7 - not even for the 32bit sonar. the hardware drivers for the soundcard (SP-25) should ONLY be for the 64bit win7 system. you can still run 32bit sonar using the SP-25 on win7x64 with 64bit drivers, but you should never try to load 32bit DRIVERS on a 64bit system unless the manufacturer says it's OK (normally it's not).

Problems solved. Just thought I'd add my solution incase other people get the same issues. Asio drivers wont work but the default wmd will but you have to deselect the default 32bit sound option, save then exit sonar. Reload sonar and het presto everything now works. If only I could get sound to pass through guitar rig 4 id be happy but thats a question for another thread. Cheers Beagle for all your help!
