Audio slowing, then dropout

Getting slow choppy audio when in playback. Never used to be a problem. How to know if it's in the audio interface (focusrite 6i6), in the computer, or sonar platinum? Setting different buffer latencies to higher like 1024 helps a bit, but still the issue. (except for recording) which i need at 512 or under. I have many tracks (22), but only using a reverb plugin on about 7 instances. And a compressor plugin.
