Audio stopped with Vintage Strings MKIII and Tapeotronic VST's

Hello
i have this problem with Sonar LE: while using some plug-in vst (mainly Vintage Strings MKIII and the Tapeotronic mellotron) the audio engine stops. It happens both playing live or running the sequencer, and always at the same point of the song (i.e. 10 seconds after i opened the project).
It doesn't look as a CPU problem: it's a dual core 4 GB ram Windows 7, and the CPU meter never gets over 20%.
It's not a dropout, it's a stop of the audio engine. It happens when i open the project, only for one time. Then i run again the audio engine (without closing the project) and then everything works fine until the end of the song.
Could there be a compatibility problem?

First try turning off all other programs, especially virus scans (after getting off the internet and turning off the modem, of course). Turn off Microsoft system sounds, too.
And it's sometimes better to not start the song at the first measure. Start it at measure 2, or 4 so the synths have a little time to get started before having to play.
It could also be that your latency is set too fast for your sound card/audio interface. What is your sound card, by the way? If it's set faster than the sound card can process the sound, you can get stoppage of the audio engine.

Thanks for your answer.
The sound card is an external Edirol UA-4FX.
I'll check the Microsoft system sounds and Sonar latency, in Options-Audio.
Not starting the sequencer at the first measure can be useful, but the problem is different. For example, i open the project, run the sequencer, everything OK until the eigth measure, then it stops (always at the same point).
I have another project with no sequencer: i open it, don't touch any key and play anything, and after 10 seconds the audio engine stops.
It seems a bug, or a compatibility problem between Sonar and the vst.
Anyway I'll check out and let you know.
Thank you.

Yes, i guess the problem is (also) in the latency.
I tried to set it higher (70 msec) and things are going better with the sequencer, but obviously not with the live playing (too much latency).
So i've read the sound card Readme file; as suggested, i configured the computer and the display so not to draw too much resources.
Then, in Sonar's Options-Audio_Advanced i changed the driver mode from WDM to ASIO.
Now things are going a little better, even with a low latency.
I thought my sound card was fast enough, but now i think i'll go to the dealer and look for something faster.
Thanks a lot

The UA with ASIO shoud be fast enough. I imagine that it can run at 10 ms or faster without problems.
When you insert the synth, go ahead and hit the Freeze button in the synth track. This temporarily bounces the synth to audio and removes the synth from processing. See if it works better with the frozen synth.

In the system requirements lists that I was able to find for VS MKIII they did not mention Windows 7. Could that be the cause of small hickups?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

No, i think it's not Windows 7. My computer as a double boot system, so i can try the software both in Windows XP and Windows 7; the problem is the same.
Bouncing tracks to audio is a good suggestion; Sonar LE hasn't the freeze function, only the bouncing (that i've never used before). It works: i bounced a sequencer track to audio, muted the MIDI track, and it doesn't stop anymore.
Still sometimes it stops when i play live. Seems like some buffer is filled up just opening the song and playing nothing; after the crash i turn on again the audio engine (without closing the song) and then (it seems) there are no more data in the buffer and everything works fine. In my opinion it's a bug; Sonar LE is rather old and perhaps the developers at the time didn't test it with VS MKIII or Tapeotronic. The last chance could be the upgrading of Sonar.
