Audio>Options fields empty & not alive
I've looked through lots of threads & can't find the answer to my question: I had re-downloaded MC3 to a new laptop (Windows 7, 64-bit) with Realtek HD Audio (WDM/KS driver mode). Why are the Audio>Options fields empty??? There's no way to fill them in, as they are not alive. I discovered all this when there was no sound on playback. I had inserted an MP3 file into Track 1, and also a WAV file in case it was a file format problem. The waveform is visible in the track, but there is no sound. Also, the marker that normally moves along it while it is playing isn't moving. It's a while since I have used Cakewalk, and I remember a steep learning curve the last time too! Any help would be very much appreciated. All I want to do is edit recorded music -- simple stuff! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I wonder if MC3 is 64 bit/W7 compatible?? But I suppose it should work in 32 bit mode ??? Did you look in the Windows Control Panel if the Realtek is enabled and functioning? The main problem, anyway, is, that MC3 is so old that it's officially only supported by Windows XP/32 bit.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Yeah..that would be my guess.... it's time to buy MC5 to get W7 compatibility. Buy the BOX version not the download.

Thanks for your quick replies. Yes, Realtek is functioning just fine in all my applications, and the test that MC runs checked out as well. As you say, MC3 is very old, and so likely other problems will surface anyway over time. I will get on the blower and order MC5, boxed as you suggest! Cheers!

while I agree that MC3 is an old program and that MC5 is really a great program for the money, you might be able to get it to work in 32bit app mode if you change your driver mode to MME/32 OR if you download and install ASIO4ALL and then change to ASIO driver mode. I would also advise a better "recording" soundcard when you can afford it. check my website for some recommendations.

you can also pick up MC5 at the local big box retailers too.... Best Buy, Staples, and local music stores.

Going with MC5 is probably a good call, and the following is more for information than anything else. If the Audio>Options fields are empty, that means that either the sound card does not support that driver mode, or MC is not communicating with it. When you started MC3 the first time, did the Wave Profiler run? What did it show? For the second question, the waveform is perfectly intact within MC3, but if MC cannot talk to the sound card, you will have no sound. And there will be no playback, so the Now Time marker does not move. This doesn't fix the problem, but hopefully sheds some light on why you are seeing what you are.
