AudioSnap and X1
Thought I'd play with AudioSnap on something yesterday and couldn't get it to work. Reading other threads it seems there's a known issue with it on X1. Did that ever get resolved? What's the recommended fix? CAF

Which known issues? There are some for some users but not others. It's not the easiest tool to get your head around either. Certainly not a one click process anyway but it works reasonably well here.

I went to find the threads that said it was broken in original X1 but don't remember my search terms. I simply don't see or hear any evidence that it's doing anything. I can see the transient markers appear when I enable the editor. The enable/disable button changes color but I can't tell what state it's in and I don't think I hear any difference. So I decided I was probably having the original X1 audiosnap-doesn't-work bug. I had no trouble with V-Vocal, figuring out how to use it and hearing the effect. I'll try installing the updates the chucke above refers to. But yeah, any guidance or pointers about how to use would be appreciated. The docs just don't seem to cover the basics. CAF

Just changing the edit filter to "Transients" and opening audiosnap won't do anything. You need to edit or move the transients in some way. Only when you've performed some editing action will it do anything.

Check out some of Karls videos, Cake University, has some, etc... It just depends on what your wanting to do with it You can do so much with it from tightening up live mixes to converting MIDI to audio Tracks and on and on. Its a great tool to have

Quantizing audio transients was not working in the first release of X1, but was fixed in the first patch, IIRC.

Took advice and installed patches a, b, c, and d. I got it to work but it's so dicey that it seems possible I just didn't land on the incantation last time. And I'm still not 100% sure I can get it every time. I'll post exact steps once I'm sure I have it. Thanks for the help. CAF

Just for anyone reading this thread - You do not need to install X1a-d, you can just install X1c and X1d. X1d requires having X1c, but X1c does not require X1a or X1b - it can be installed over plain old X1.

Hmmm... a tutorial I found says I can click on the "Show/Hide Transients" button two to the right of the power button. Apparently the UI has been through some changes. I can't find that button. I can get transients to appear by hitting the "Edit Click Map" button a couple times. Seems like there should be a better way. Thoughts? And sometimes I can see a right-click menu which has Audio Snap but most times not. I stumble on it, but how do I reliably bring it up? I don't find "swing" documented. Is 50% just even spacing of the 1/8 notes for 1/8 note quantize? CAF

Btw, I'm just trying to quantize to the timebase of the drums and MIDI which seems like it should be one of the easiest scenarios. Quantize works as expected on MIDI. When I do get AS to quantize, it does weird stuff. For MIDI I used 1/8 and that was correct for the complexity of time I was playing. Neither 1/8 nor 1/16 seem to yield expected results in AS quantize though. I'm sure once I figure out the magic set of buttons this will all be easy. CAF
