Audiobox: Windows 7 64 bit

I'm at my wits end; I was talked into moving form an Audiophile 24/96 soundcard that I've literally had for YEARS to a Firewire solution. I first tried the BlackJack from Mackie - no luck, erratic, HUGE driver issues. I took that back and just got an Audiobox Presonus ... the 64bit driver fails to load. I've tried everything. I had an M-Audiobuddy before both of these; it worked for about 5 months then one of the channels failed. My M-Audio studio monitors crackle so bad I can't use them ... I'm so burnt ... all I want to do is record myself, compose a bit you know .. have some fun.

At this point I"m thinking I should pack it up and get myself a new Mic Preamp to go with my ancient soundcard and call it good. I work with computers all day long and I can't understand why Windows 7 / 64 is so hard for developers to do the right thing and create good drivers.

Does anyone out there have any constructive advice?? I could sure use some.... Victoria

Well, firewire has a problem in that it has to have the Texas Instruments chipset or it won't work properly. That's been well documented in this forum.

Hard to believe the Presonus won't work. Have you contacted them?

You should have stuck with the 24/96. I've had a Delta 44 for over 10 years and it still works great.

OK.. mistake number one: USB solution not Firewire.

I got the drivers to load ... finally, it was a cable / port problem. Now, I can see the drivers in Sonar but the signal is WAY TOO hot. The knobs on the front don't seem to do anything for that. The knobs are working; phones adjust nicely.

Your right ... if I can't get this solved in a timely manner I"m going back to the audiophile (have to get a new mic preamp).

I am using an audiobox without problems on winXP and Win7/64. I can confirm that the signal is quite hot. There is also not a line level input.

I have used a dynamic and a LDC (PreSonus M7) mic without problems. Putting my guitar through a Digitech PR100 I have to turn the volume on the Digitech down not to clip.

I can't compate the audiobox with anything as this is my firts and only audio interface.
