Auditioning audio FX
Hey all - still feeling like a fish out of water with MC4, but getting better as time goes by...
I have been playing around with Audio FX on some vocal tracks - Not knowing what all of them do I am keen to want to preview them before applying them to the track, but the "audition" only plays the first 5 seconds or so of the song, before any vocals on the audio get processed...
what is the trick to auditioning a larger piece of the vocal?

Mgcain...
I never use the audition feature.... 5 seconds...not enough time for me.
I simply insert the FX in the FX bin.... solo the track and play with the knobs until it sounds good to me....
then I unsolo the track and start playback again to see how it "fits" the mix. Remember...this FX is going to possibly be with the song forever....it has to be right, and it has to add to the song in a positive way.
If I don't like it...I right click it in the FX bin and select delete.
I use this method because I find that 5 seconds is not enough time for me to play with & properly evaluate the effect.
NOTE: during playback...you can insert & delete FX from the FX bin....however, I recommend pausing the playback when you INSERT a new FX, at times this has cause my system to exit in an unbecoming manner, however, DELETING an FX during playback has caused no plroblems.

An alternate version to Herbs is to place the effect in the aux buss, and add a send to the track in question, and slowly adjust the levels until you like what you hear, the effect can be enabled and disabled with the click of a mouse. ( see thread on sends on this forum)

^ that's what I do as well. I can't tell anything from 5 seconds and it's just a better workflow for me to listen for while after adjusting and then delete if I don't like it.

I never did like them much.... I prefer the look of a "real guitar" .... all you guitar players that own ovations.... don't flame me over that comment....

mgcain, once you find an effect you like and tweak it so it sounds even better to you, click the 'Save' icon if it has one and give it a unique name like "My Best 'Verb". That way you don't have to try to remember what the settings were the last time you used it. You just select My Best 'Verb from the list of presets.

Another sends question. Would this affect the sends if you sent another "sends" to that bus? Would it apply to those tracks as well? And would you have to adjust the amounts to spread it out over the other tracks?
