Automatically Select Individual Track to Record
When I click on the R button to selct a MIDI track as the track I want to record on, the one currently selected as the record track does not get de-selected. This seems silly as 90% of the times people record on one track at the time. Is there a setting to use "radio button" functionality (ie, mutually exclusive selection) instead of the default above described ? Thanks! Simon

when you click on the R button of a MIDI track that means you are ARMING that particular track, but that doesn't disarm other MIDI tracks because there are people who record more than 1 MIDI input. 90%? not sure where you got that number unless you're just saying it's a "majority" and maybe it is a majority, but they can't create a situation for the majority that would leave out the functionality for the other "10%"

There is a setting in Options>Global that enables recording Midi without an armed track. I don't know much about it but maybe that would work for you. Presumable it will record on whatever Midi track has the focus.

Just a suggestion: Set the midi input to a different channel number for each midi track and use the midi selector on your controller to select the track. Then it would not matter if all of the tracks were armed and you could even arm them all in advance.

Then it would not matter if all of the tracks were armed and you could even arm them all in advance. Yes it would, they would be erased with blank data. I use the global record toggle found in the upper right task bar. This will arm/ disarm all tracks. Its a bad habbit not to turn off the record when you have finished recording a track. Turn it off, save project. Start a new track. Simple.

I have just tested this out and it did not create any blank data. It only created a new midi clip for the track corresponding to the selected channel number.

Hmm, I guess I figured if you arm a track it will record, if the input is not there then it records nothing. You must be doing something my sleepy brain don't get. :)

nothing will happen to the existing data if you have "sound on sound" checked. I don't remember for certain if that applies to MIDI, but I know that my sonar acts that way. since you are not overwriting the existing recording with new data, but putting both new and old into layered clips (regardless of midi or audio) then it will not affect the old data, it will just write a new clip. if there's no midi data in the new clip, the clip doesn't get "printed" into the track anyway , it just disappears. that's a feature of sonar, I believe. I've seen it many times when recording midi at all, if you start recording it will turn red as the NOW TIME marker moves along, but once you stop the recording, if no midi data was transmitted on that channel, then it just disappears and nothing changes.

I always toggle "overwrite" so that would explain it.
