Automating Plug-ins On/Off

Hi guys

Can anyone please tell me how to automate turning guitar rig on and off for a small duration of a track?

I have a distortion effect on the intro which I want to shut down as soon as its finished cause it keeps sustaining when left on.

I want to make it permanent every time I playback the track.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (I have given it a go myself but am obviously doing something wrong!)

Cheers

I don't use Guitar Rig so I'm not sure what can be automated and what can't.

On the track with Guitar Rig on it, bring up the HUD by middle mouse clicking or pressing T.

From the edit filter there you can select "Automation" and see if Guitar Rig has it's on/off listed. If it doesn't you can either see what GR does list and see if you can control the distortion/volume from there or perhaps easier just put a steep volume envelope on the track or an automated mute.

Thanks mate - I'll give it a go!

By the way - what plug in for guitar do you use?  Are there many to choose from other than GR?

I don't, I record either using a simulated out from a Boss GT-6 or mic up one of my amps. I mainly use a JCM-600 and 4x10 for dirty sounds and a Session Rockette 30 for clean.

I have GR LE (or whatever it is) as part of SOnar and have re-amped with it occasionally but not enough to know it well. I have used Revalver pre-peavey days but not in a long while.

I'm sure others that do use plug-ins will jump in with some advice.

Not an expert by any means but have you tried making a clip of the part you want different and adding the FX to just that clip?

This was going to be my suggestion - split the track into clips and apply the Guitar Rig part as a Clip FX to only the part you want the sound on.

As for other amp sims there are a ton of them (many good ones completely free) - check out this list over at the Andy Sneap forums:

clone the track.. delete Guitar rig from the clone

Insert volume envelopes in both tracks.... bring one 100% out while bringing the other 100% in for the duration of the time..... envelope back...

done. nothing destroyed in the process.
