Automation control with keyboard mod wheel

Is it possible to record automation control with a MIDI keyboard mod wheel. This is probably basic stuff, but something I've never delved into. If it's possible, how does one set this up to work. Trying to control a certain parameter of an effect in real time with the mod wheel, while recording those automation changes. Thanks.

    add an automation lane and right click in the value box and select remote control.  move your mod wheel and click learn.  pretty nifty.

    Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

    Awesome. I had forgotten there are now automation lanes and haven't used them at all so far. I will give this a try. Thanks!
