Automation copy & paste
Has something changed with automation copy & paste in one of the recent updates? I'm trying to copy several nodes from an automation snapshot in one region and paste them to another. I select the time selection of the track and select copy. I get the box to check "Track & Buss Automation" but when I move to the area I want to paste the nodes the paste option is greyed out. I've tried it using the right-context menu and Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V 'cos IIRC there was issues with method earlier. I know I've done this before because I had my one & only (so far) X1 crash while pasting automation in busses while trying a method out for ba_midi way back in early X1 days. Can someone confirm that I'm being stupid or is this some kind of bug. It is a pre-X1 project but the automation has been written in X1 if that makes a difference. Any replies advice etc much appreciated.......... thanks.

I've always has problems trying to copy and paste automation (even in 8.5). As long as you have a clip that shares the same time as the automation, the automation seems to go with it. But I've had terribly kooky results in X1. I haven't spend the time to figure it out yet. Hopefully someone else can explain it, because this is a pain point for me too.

If you use the select tool and lasso the nodes - copy with the automation box checked, then "Paste Special" using blend old with new and with track/bus automation box checked

Lorney is right on the money, I've been doing a lot of this over the last couple of days. I have not loaded ALL the updates after X1b though. Seth made a comment in another thread that he is running X1b without any of the "QuickFixes", and I have no burning reason to install more QuickFixes at this point in time. I think I loaded up the first QuickFix, and I'm thinking about rolling that one back to see if some graphics funnies are related to the QuickFix. The good thing about the QuickFixes is the small size and easy rollback procedure. Cheers - Cliff

JoshWolfer I've been using the super tool. I'll try the selection tool. Thanks! Ditto. I'm still sure I managed it before with the smart tool, albeit the automation was in busses not tracks. I'll give the select tool a whirl. Thanks

You're my hero of the hour Lorney. That was it. You just need to use the select tool and it does EXACTLY what you think it would do. Man.. that's TWO beers I own you now! Seriously, If you're ever in San Francisco, Cali, let me know, I owe you =)

Actually, there is one more tweaky thing I would like to understand. If I use the select tool and copy a small section of an automation set and paste it, it seems to paste the WHOLE clip's worth, not just the 30% of automation nodes I had selected when I copied. Thoughts? You mention lasso mode. From the online help, it seems like that is just to select the entire clip. Thanks!

After playing around with it a bit more I think it needs 1 more step. After selecting the nodes, also select the time line of the section that you want to copy with the now time marker set at the start of the time line. Then paste at same time mark into the new track. This then just send that section to the new/other track.
