Automix oddity

You guys ever notice that Sonar only records Automix information when your fingers are actually touching the faders?

    Seems like it'd be easier without that feature doesn't it?
    If you wanted to, say, balance four tracks (or more) differently?

    It was seeming to me that once my finger was off the fader the level went back to unity.
    Maybe I was doing something wrong.
