Autumn Rain

Hello everyone,

Here is my latest work. I started working on this way back in April as a jazz riff that came to me while I was at the gym. You never know where the muse will strike. It took a lot longer than I would have liked because I got halfway through it twice and rewrote it each time until this third version emerged.

Before uploading to Soundclick, I'd like comments on the mix and decided to upload another high-fidelity MP3 to a different site for you listen to.

http://www.newsmanpro.com/download/private/Dan%20Cumpian%20-%20Autumn%20Rain.mp3

If your browser can play mp3 files directly, simply click the link, otherwise, right-click and download to play from your local machine.

Best Regards,
Dan

Thats a great instrumental Dan, it got me emotionally involved right from the start. Are there vocals for it coming? It's great as it is but I am really curious to how a really good singer would sound on it and how it would evolve (I'm thinking a strained male voice or/and a clear female voice). Both the mix and the melodies are great.

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.

Thanks for listening and your kind words.

I've always thought this song could use a vocalist, but it ain't gonna be me. I'd butcher it, for sure.

    Anyone interested?

    Hi Dan,

Cool tune, it has a relaxing, chill vibe to it, sort of like a breezy summer evening in the city. I like the organ, which is discreet but important to the song. The piano, guitars, and drums sound great.

Overall, the mix and the song is very nice indeed.

Dan, this sounds great through my headphones, really full and wide. Excellent work, a gorgeous melody with a very atmospheric backdrop, I liked this very much.

Care to name any influences on your music? I love that widescreen production style.

Dan, just as James, wonderful tune and sounds great in my phones too.

Really enjoyed and a great piece. I would think Jeff would love to write and sing to this. I sent him a mail to check it out.

    Dan,

I'm still trying to recover from "Lost & Found", easily one of the best songs I've ever heard, period. I listen to that one all the time.

This is a good song also, and I agree with the others, your productions are so well-done, you have a great sense of the stereo image and how to leverage it to your advantage. Your rhythm guitars, are they real guitars or well-effected midi instruments?

    Taylor_514C,

Thanks for your feedback. It's funny about your description as the first version of this song had a lyric running through my head..."are you going uptown?". So, your inityial image isn't too far off of my own. Once the song got into this incarnation, I thought it had sort of lost that "uptown" vibe.

    Dan

Thanks for that. I really wanted it to be wide. Needed it, actually, with all the stuff going on. I tend to get a little too lush sometimes.

I listen to so many different kinds of music, that it would be really difficult to pick a single influence. My ideas about synth melodies and harmonies come from the New Wave/Romantic bands of the early 80's. For guitar tones, I would choose The Pretenders, Carlos Santana and Alex Lifeson. For overall production, I would say that Seal's second album is one of the albums that impresses me whenever I listen to it. Anything by Sting and Peter Gabriel as well.

On this piece, all of the guitar parts are real. They are all from a $100 Yamaha Pacifica, believe it or not. I've been saving up for a nice Fender someday, but it hasn't happened yet. Glad you enjoyed the song, and I'm honored by your comment about "Lost and Found".

    Dan,
I've been listening to this for a while. Yes it has your trademark lush sound. It didn't initially grab me like Voyager, but it grows on you. Big city lights.
I'm getting one of those heartwrenching goodbye's, standing in a perfect rain. Not sure if that was your intent, but that's what it says to me.
This sounds like what I felt when i found out my first wife was dying. When I walked out of the hospital, it was raining..perfect.

Nice mix, I love everything except the sound of that snare. Not sure if it was the reverb or what, but it didn't sit with me. But that's very minor considering the overall offering, very nice, great recording, well written, and performed.

Great recording as everyone said. The beginning reminded me of Steve Winwood. Very solid production.

    Thank you Nikolas.

Dan - This sounds like 'Windam Hill' material (record label). Excellent sounds, playing, and mix my friend. I'm looking out my window and all I see is Fall color this time of year. No rain. LOL! I liked everything about this. No nits on my end man! What a great composition!!
