Avatone CV-12

I purchased one today. Had to tell somebody. Wife and kids could care a less.

If it's not in the mix, it's not in the master

Congrats, then! A friend has one and swears by it, but I haven't got over there to check it out yet.
I'm "shopping" for a multipattern LDC, sort of... well, I am, but the budget "isn't", yet! LOL
I've owned/used a couple of them, but have yet to replace one/them. I seem to be "gun shy", after "losing" (long story)my U87, and C414b/uls pair. I don't have any experience with Avantone, Rode, or so many of the newer companies, as far as multipatterns go.

I love mine, but the 1st one I got went dead in like 12 hours. Sweetwater sent me another one. That one had a bad hum out of the box. So before I sent them both back I took the power supply from one and the mic from the other one and.. Now it works great! :)
I sent back the crap... lol All good with Sweetwater....

    Hay look,

Tube upgrades appear to be popular for this mic, although it's by no means the only one. This kind of thing:

I've owned one for over 5 years now.  I've changed the tube twice.  It's been on hundreds of sessions- mostly as a vocal mic.  I just bought a Genesis (yeah, MXL) used, for a song (pardon the pun), and it's getting some service because it's not too shabby!  But the Avantone is a great mic.  No issues at all with mine in a 5 year span of consistent use.

I got one about 6 weeks ago. I had been using a Rode NT1000 for years, and at first I thought it was a little dark by comparison, I learned pretty quickly that all I had to do was EQ a bit differently and I could get a warmth with the CV12 that was impossible with the Rode. I soon realized that the NT1000 might have been a little TOO bright this whole time. In summary, I'm relay happy with it!

Nice to hear about the CV-12.
Anyone have experience with the ADK Thor? Whenever I hear tracks I did with my AKG C414b/uls pair, I think I should just buy another pair of those. Still there must be something LDC multipattern I'd love, amongst the many new ones.

    Wanted one then.

Forgot all about it. went about recording with my nt2a....

I wrote an article for a forum that compares the Avantone cv12 to a vintage AKG c-12, among some other great Peluso mics (that you can see in my avatar). I've taken down the hosting of that document, but if you PM me your email address, and as long as we're not violating CW forum rules of engagement, I can send you a PDF copy.
