Avid's new licencing policies similar to Cakewalk membership

I stumbled across this topic on Gearslutz. It seems that Avid is changing their licencing policies in a similar way as Cakewalk is / yearly fee of 199 USD entitling for updates, cloud collaboration (?) and tech support.

Well, the industry is changing... :)

Looks like they are only offering a lump sum 12 month support plan.

For 200.00 you get to make one phone call a month to their support people. Unlimited "online" support and upgrades as they become available.

Even microsoft claimed some time back the next windows would be called just Windows.
They either chickened out or it is still yet to be.

This model seems like a way to make coding less feast or famine.

Huh.  I have an old version of M-Powered Pro Tools - looks like it can be used as an upgrade base.  Wonder if I could sell it?!

Maybe AVID thinks Pro Stools is sooooooooo good you'll only ever need one call per month.

The one call a month is the cheap support 199.00 /year. AVID is willing to sell you unlimited phone support for 599.00 per year. Probably a bargain for a high end professional studio where it can cost hundreds of dollars an hour to have people standing around waiting for the program to work. And with either version they commit to one business day response to an email support ticket.
