Awakening (and an apology)

Hi,

I sat at the piano for the first time in about 2 months tonight and this piece of music just flowed off the keys. I hate being so busy that I don't have time for music... but I've been working the equivalent of a 9 day week for the last couple of months and making music was something I just didn't have time for :(

I also owe everyone on here an apology - as a contributor and as a receiver of feedback I should have been around on here more to give feedback on other people's tracks even while I was unable to make music myself but I've been sadly lacking in my visits to the forum. Please accept my apologies!

Cheers,
Terry.

Don't stay away for so long, this piece is exquisite.  It flows like liquid, and the dynamics are terrific.  Encore.

I agree, cant beat a solo piano sometimes played like this, fluid, melodic and simple.

Love the sections where you really open out which really can only be achieved by having sections that are really soft.

    Well done.

I don't know what to say other than I am now following you on sound cloud. As a fellow piano/keys player I am in awe and humbled. Beautiful playing, remarkable composition for an semi-improv session if I understood correctly. Powerful piece. - Shad

    Hi,

Thanks to every who has taken the time to listen and comment so far.

@Lynn - thanks for the effusive comments... I'll try not to stay away so long in future!

@Cian - Yup, the solo piano is a beautiful sound, I often mentally thank my parents for forcing me into piano lessons when I was a small boy; they persevered until I realised I was actually enjoying myself!

@Shad - wow, thanks for the really positive comments! "Semi-improv" sounds like the right term... I sat down at the piano sometime after 7pm thinking I'd ease myself back into playing by getting out some of my favourite classical music to play but when my fingers touched the keyboard I was inspired. I practised some of the harder sections before recording it but essentially this was written, recorded, and uploaded all within 80 minutes! Not something that happens often, but I appreciate it when it does!

@Rik - thanks for taking the time to listen and comment - and thanks for the positive words.

    Thanks again,
    Terry.

Hi Terry - This piece transported me to a better place where dreams are real. The music is exquisite and the performance masterful. I love orchestral film music, particularly when it features the piano and this piece, which would perfectly grace any film, would rank at the very top of my list of favourites.

Terry, your musicianship is really top notch.  This melody is sad and beautiful and then comes the positive chords to lift us up.  Thank you.

    Hi,

Thanks again to all that are taking the time to listen, it's sincerely appreciated.

@malcomb - wow, effusive praise indeed! Thanks for the kind words and the sentiment is very touching.

@mgh - thanks! It's absolutely frigging marvellous when inspiration strikes like that! Sometimes I can sit at the piano and tortuously work my way from an idea to something that might be okay... but when it just flows out like it did for this one it really makes me appreciate wherever it is my inspiration comes from.

@rimshot - thank you. I do sad quite a lot; it's unusual that I write a part in a major key without it sounding twee and insincere but the change from Am to C for the 'positive' part worked really well for once.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to listen (even if you haven't commented) - I'm starting to think that maybe I should wait 2 months between every time I sit at the piano... this piece of music has received more positive comments than almost everything else I've written. Now I just need to figure out what it is about this particular piece so that I can attempt to repeat it!

    Cheers,
    Terry.

Terry, my life sounds like yours has been the last month or so, and it will most likely continue for at least another month.  My DAW sits gathering dust.  And I can't get to this forum like I'd like to either.  Anyway, I snuck here for just a minute before calling it a day and figured this one would lift my soul...and it certainly did, as your music always does.  It's beautiful and exquisite and sounds so effortless. (Only 80 minutes?  Wow!!).

Thank you. (and good for your parents!) I hope we both can get back to music before long.  :)

As to the many positive comments....I doubt if this is much different or better than anything you've done...it could just be your lucky week or something.  (and theirs) :)

Thanks Janet - I appreciate you taking the time to listen! Glad you enjoyed it, and I pray you get time to dust off your DAW and rock us all with another fine piece of creativity.

    Cheers,
    Terry.
