BFD or Superior?
Hi all, I don't have any intention to buy either of these for a while, but in the future I could see myself getting a some Roland V-Drums or something and BFD or Superior Drummer 2 to go with it... just curious what people's experiences with these are and what they'd recommend and why? Thanks!

We use Superior 2 with our Roland TD-12 V-Drum kit without any issue. But I suspect both applications would work just fine. Tom

I agree with Tom - either would work fine with electronic drums. I love Superior, but I don't have BFD to compare it to.

You can't go wrong with either one. I love the infinite tweakability of Superior Drummer, but BFD seems like a little less work, especially if you can afford an assortment of expansion packs to go with it. I don't know how well BFD works with live triggers, but I know Superior works great as a live instrument and I've seen it used that way many times. Wish I could afford a nice set of trigger pads - wish I had the coordination to play them, too. If you're not a drummer, and especially if you're a keyboardist, consider something like the Roland HandSonic as an alternative data-input device instead of a conventional kit configuration.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I have not used BFD before but Superior is amazing. Here are some things you can do. 1. Mic bleed control for every mic on the kit. This means if the overheads have too much snare, I can dial the snare back for the overhead mic. Especially useful for room and ambient mics. 2. Compressor, transient control, EQ, gate on every mic if you want. 3. Buss grouping within the plug in. Eliminates setting up multiple bussing schemes in the DAW. This makes it fast to set up drum mix. 4. If you don't want to use buss grouping, you can got straight back to your DAW on individual channels and use the effects and bussing in your host. This without having to print the mic tracks. Realtime. Primarily for using 3rd party plugs or outboard gear. 5. If you want to just take the raw sounds and print them to the DAW tracks you can tell the plug in to print each mic or drum kit component. 6. If you have a multi out soundcard, you can route directly to the hardware outputs and use external outboard gear in line with the Superior drums. The control between a dry kit and an ambient kit is just amazing. This plus all the kit component variations i.e. over 10 variations of snare, kick, cymbals etc. All recorded live. I know BFD has a lot of similar capabilities but these are the ones that come to mind here.

Well so far Superior sounds cool, funny though, no one here has posted anything on BFD yet

Sorry, I'm another person that went from EZ drummer to Superior drummer. both of which I like a lot. FX-Expansion products are always good though, so I'm sure BFD is good as well.

Either are good products, however, I think Superior Drummer is better for V-Drums from the perspective of ease of use and performance. Users of both BFD and Superior Drummer have reported that BFD is not as easy to use with V-Drums as Superior Drummer. Further, there have been a number of reports that BFD still has some machine gunning problems (the developer attempted to fix this in their last update and the feedback I've seen -- largely at VDrums.com -- indicates that the update was good overall, but not perfect; users have posted audio files that show the machine gunning problem still exists). I'd strongly recommend you check out threads where people have recently posted this same question in the V-Drums.com community: http://www.vdrums.com/for...php?54-VST-amp-Samples FTR I own Superior Drummer, BFD Eco, Addictive Drums, Steven Slate Drums, Sonic Reality Drum Masters, Sonic Reality Neil Peart Drums, Native Instruments Abbey Road Drums, Waves Factory Tea Towel Drums and more and Roland V-Drums. Yes, I definitely have Gear Acquisition Syndrome. - Peter

I have EZ Drummer and add-on Drumkit from Hell as well as Addictive Drums. I much prefer the Addictive Drums because it gives me more to tweak. Not that I don't like the EZ Drummer samples but they start to sound like EZ Drummer songs after a while because of the lack of flexibility without having to do a bunch of post treatment to them. Now if I had to choose between Superior 2.0 and Addictive Drums I would probably choose S2.0 because I think those samples are a better out of the box and you still have all the flexibility. BFD I think is a closer match to Addictive Drums than it is S2.0. So if you're considering S2.0 or BFD then IMO the clear choice is S.20.
