BFD2 buyers beware

Not trying to panic anyone but just a note to firstly remind folks who are close to edge and in need of a push that
there are only 8 days left in which to take advantage of the half price offer on BFD2.

Secondly it looks like fxpansion have updated their system specs and due to the frustrations of some first time buyers
I feel people should "do like I never ever do" read the specs before you get your wallet out.

It's a little confusing but basically, if you are installing from the DVD's then you will have the older version "2.1.0.47"
which can be run on, Windows XP SP1 (32 or 64bit) or higher: Vista 32 or 64 bit. It says you can run it on 1GB ram but
you're not going to see it fly. And not forgetting a 7,200 rpm drive (both C drive and storage)
This version is 32 bit only and ran fine for me under jbridge although bitbridge would crash when closing projects, but I managed to live with that.

Having said the above it's much more likely you'll be buying the download version which is at version 2.2 & 2.3.
These are 64bit only. They do NOT support Windows XP or Vista.
This doesn't necessarily mean you can't use them as some people have managed to get it installed but I think perhaps they might have been via the updates and so it is not recommended.
So if you're a vista or XP user you may still want to try and get hold of the DVD versions and when you are ready to upgrade your operating system then you can also update to the newer version of BFD2.

As a few have discovered after purchase and much to their cost, it is strongly recommended that BFD's audio/data be installed to a separate 7,200rpm drive. This can be internal, firewire or usb.

Hopefully this will be of some use to someone and might help prevent some of the tears and shenanigans we've seen over the last few weeks.

Cheers

Steve

All the more reason to  consider upgrading an OS and adding a 7200 rpm hard drive. BFD isn't alone here. This is good advice for anyone seriousy using considering a sample streaming program of any kind.

I give BFD credit here, some companies have simply dropped support for older computers.

It is ironic that the growing pains of software developement in the past have been full of people who demand things like 64 bit compatibility and OS compatabilty immediately after a new OS release. This usually happens in a reasonable amount of time and BFD have delivered on this...then at the other end of the spectrum we have users, who for whatever reason,  have decided to keep that old machine running winxp and want all of the newest developments to continue to run on it.....
