BR800 Control Surface Problems

I have just bought a BR800 which came with Sonar 8.5. I am trying to set it up as a control surface but i cant get it to work. I have gone into Options/Controllers and then changed the control surface to Mackie Control as specified in the manual. I cannot select the ACT option as this is in grey, WAI is checked. The in and out ports are both BR800. I start Sonar after setting up the BR800 but nothing happens. I am expecting to see the sliders etc on the screen and be able to edit my songs etc but this isnt happening.
 
Can anyone help me?
