Baba O'Riley

Driving to work this morning I did some channel surfing and one was playing The Who's "Baba O'Riley". For some odd reason it got me thinking that if I were to happen upon friendly intelligent space aliens that knew nothing of our western culture and I had only one example available of what ROCK music is, this is the song I would probably pick. I always loved this song, and not having heard it in awhile, it just confirmed that this song still is at the top of list to me of what defines a rock song. I am talking ROCK.  Not metal.  And not even Rock n' Roll. Pure ROCK music. Townshend's power chords. Moon's fanatical drumming. Daltrey's voice. Great violin, synths, etc.   I would just hope the aliens don't ask me what the song title is all about though.

Broken pencils are pointless.

I'd play them some rap so maybe they'd run away.

Does that mean you'd be keeping their ship?

I'm with you on this, but I would probably show them the Kids Are Alright version of Won't Get Fooled Again.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I'd tell them Jimi was here first and left a message - and then play them Up From the Skies...

    Hi,

You guys have done too much dope!

Even the jokes are getting ... cough .... cough .... splatt!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
