Baby Blue (Badfinger Cover Collab)
Another classic cover by Badfinger. Robby on Vox and BVox and me on the backing track. This was a Robby request, hope you enjoy. This will be my last cover for a few weeks, heading to China for 2 weeks starting this weekend. Then on to a Pink Floyd song upon return...... http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=12215263&q=hi Regards

Thanks Mark, I've always loved this tune, it's on my top 10. And I've always wanted to do it? Thank you so much for nailing a tribute version of this all-time classic cover! The mix is very "Genevieve Morton" to my ears...

Robby, you know I'm a big fan of your vox, but TBH this performance was just a little bit too laid back. Needed more punch/attack, IMHO. You sounded tired. Overall, great job.

taking on a todd rundgren production eh?! what a great song... i like what you did with this.... it's a little mellower than the original, but it totally works.... and all the good parts (harmonies, funny bass line at the lead turnaround, etc) are there. it's funny, i can never listen to this song without feeling quite bittersweet.

I went for a little mellower/sweeter vibe on this? Maybe because the last several have been such screamers? But the Badfinger version is not exactly power rock?

H guys, you did a fine job on this. Your guitars are in better tune than the original! Nicely played. I think the kick is really soft - maybe check that. Lead voc might be a shade loud but no big deal. Rimshot

Frank - Thanks, Badfinger were no doubt the kings of power pop back in the day. Great library of songs. When I get back from my Asia trip we are going to tackle a Pink Floyd song. Should be interesting. Bob - Thanks, there are a few minor warts here and there because my V-Vocal isn't working in X2, so I did zero pitch correction on this one, all old school. Glad you liked it. Grant - Thanks for the listen and comment. Appreciate it. Ed- Thanks for the listen. It is funny you say that because originally we were going a lot more aggressive and then decided to back it down to a early 70's sound. I think it would have been good a little harder... Bat - I forgot Todd Rundgren produced this. Glad you liked it. It is a great song, but what a sad story with Badfinger. Gary - Thanks for the comment. I hadn't heard this one for quite awhile although I had done the drums and bass track for it a few years back, when I also did No Matter What by BF, however, never got around to doing anything with it. Then Robby requested it so I pulled out the track and re-did the guitar parts. Thanks for the listen. Wookie - Thanks for the listen. This song came out in 1972 so it is quite old. You probably know that BadFinger were expected to be the next Beatles, their first hit (Come and Get It) was written by Paul McCartney and they were signed to the Beatles label (Apple) Herb - Thanks for the comment. It would be cool with a fiddle and steel guitar. Rimshot - Thank You. I had the kick a lot hotter but Robby made me turn it down to remain faithful to the original;( I bet Todd Rundgren wouldn't have turned the kick down, my bad.,. Thanks for the comment. Phil - Thanks for the listen. Glad you liked it. Appreciate the comment. Regards

I had the misfortune of hearing Badfinger play this song live around 1974. They bombed on this song and several others. Fortunately, you have done an admirable job with this...but, can you do it live? You chose a good song!

geeare1 Hi Mark & Robby, What a great song! Haven't heard this in years and love your rendition of it. Always liked Badfinger...one of the saddest stories in rock, though. Gary is right, it is one of the saddest stories in rock :-( They had some great hits though? And a classic sound.. "Three days before his 28th birthday, on 24 April 1975, Ham committed suicide by hanging himself, leaving a note that included damning comments about Polley." Pete was really the lead singer, and wrote many of their hits with Tom Evans." "The Ham/Evans-penned Badfinger song, " Without You, became a Billboard number one hit for Harry Nilsson" I can't live, if living is without you. Janet and I actually covered this one? "Evans reportedly never got over his friend's suicide, and was quoted as saying in darker moments, "I wanna be where he is" On 19 November 1983, Evans also took his own life by hanging." Wookiee - Thanks for the listen. This song came out in 1972 so it is quite old. You probably know that BadFinger were expected to be the next Beatles, their first hit (Come and Get It) was written by Paul McCartney and they were signed to the Beatles label (Apple) I remember Badfinger just by 1972 my music listening had moved away from chart stuff and into some progressive and underground head music as we called it back then.

:-) We're a dynamic duo! But he has to stop using me for my pipes and let me play some bass and keys! Actually, Mark did this one for me (which I really appreciate as it's one of my all time favorites.) Most of my favorite music is from the 60s and 70s. Some from the 80s, after that? Not so much.

Lynn - Thanks for the comment. We may never know if we can do it "live". I don't do much of that anymore.....too busy with work et, al.... Janet-Thanks, glad you liked it. Was a fun song. Mark-Thanks, much appreciated. Wookie-I think a lot of us did the same, I am finding I like to go back to some of that simple, pop stuff I missed back in the day though... Probably would have appreciated it more at the time if we knew what was coming at the turn of the century;) James-Thanks. I may push the kick a bit. I just picked up the new Waves Redd Console (Abbey Road) that I may try on this track too. Unfortunately I leave for a 10 day trip to Asia so won't get to it anytime soon. Pete-Thanks for the listen and comment. Kev-Thanks, glad we didn't wreck one of your favs for you;) Appreciate it. Geno-Thanks for the listen, appreciate it. I have to admit after I heard your Song for America I almost hung it up;) What a masterpiece that was. Thanks everyone for taking the time to listen and the feedback, much appreciated. Regards

When this song came out my wife and I were living in Toronto. It seemed like this number got airplay about every 4th or 5th song. Excellent cover on this classic. Kudos to you both. Mark -- have a great and safe trip to China.
