Back in the Game
After a frustrating 4-month hiatus, I've finally put my studio back together. The new computer came a week ago and I've spent the intervening days in a marathon of installing plugins and a terabyte's-worth of sample libraries. The last component - speakers - arrived yesterday. New beginnings. I've even let go of SONAR 8.5 and have only Platinum installed on the new computer. I can now complain about Breverb just like everybody else. As a long-time fan of Addictive Drums, I think I'm going to enjoy that addition, but will be sticking with familiar stuff - Superior Drummer and Kontakt - to start with. Now I just need a project...

Good news. Now you can use Melodyne as a Region FX until everything under the sun is in tune!
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

This also means I can get back to writing for SoundBytes. Those guys were having all the fun without me. I think they must have been feeling sorry for me because David (our esteemed editor dmbaer) offered me first dibs on a prize instrument for November's issue. Pretty excited about that.
