How about meat that tastes like corn.

    Or soybeans.

I was just comparing corn fed flavor to what you get if they eat what they are designed to eat... grass.

It's ok.  It will take awhile for your taste buds to recover from all that eel and haggis you've been eating.  They're in shock.

Noone knows and they won't tell. I think I finally dropped a Bacobit I ate ten years ago. By mistake.

I like the free roaming, grass eating beef better.
It seems to have a 'meatier' flavor and better marbling.

It's funny because when I first read this thread title; 'BacoBits, I immediately thought they be bacon treats for dogs.

Until now I had no idea that BacoBits are 'meat-free' and thereby suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

    I think so Mike?

After doing a Google search I'm 100% sure.

On second thoughts, make that 95% sure.

Actually I could be completely wrong, although there is a good chance I could be right. But now I'm only 70% sure.

But then again, when you weigh in the Google factor with it's new 'auto-search' feature I'll probably reduce that conclusion down to about 50%.

There must be a reason I started this thread.

I think I just learned I can eat Bacobits... oh the horror!

    :-)

    I probably shouldn't know that.

Surely it's a kind of hankering after something you've made a choice not to have as part of your diet.  Why would you want meat substitutes?  If you feel that bad that you are missing out on something then just go out and get the real thing and spare yourself the inner turmoil.

I spent 10-12 years completely meat free and there's a whole world of completely delicious and new tastes out there without any need to opt for second rate pale substitutes of something else to keep you feeling that you are going through some kind of self-denial and suffering for a cause.

Today I just try to eat well and get hold of good ingredients I don't have a badge of vegetarian or carnivore I'm just a plain old omnivorous human being that is grateful for the wealth of foodstuffs that I currently have available to me.

Sacrilege to say it here but next time you plan a becan breakfast replace the becan with generously cut slices of aubergine, fried in olive oil and sprinkled with rosemary, yammy!  No soya based substitute comes close.

    Thanks for the recipe!

FWIW, I've been happy living a meat free lifestyle since I was seventeen. Well over half my life.

I am on an extended road run and my producer is a wonderful man... but his dad used to own a meat packing plant so we can't help but to have some fun with my condition when we sit around the dinner table.

The subject of flavorful Bacon and eventually Bacobits came up... and I've been wistfully kidding him that I might like some Bacobits on craft service.

But I'm just joking around... I'm on the diet for a small planet. :-)

Jon, If I was having second thoughts then I believe you gave the very best advice. Thanks for that! :-)

    best regards,
    mike

My, my just goes to show what a good nutritious diet does, I wouldn't have put you a day over 34...

I was just generally thinking out loud in the previous post but on reading it back it does look a bit like I was pontificating...
