Bacon-flavored seaweed

This is what happens when you mix vegans with legal pot.

I don't understand why a vegan would want bacon-flavored anything. Tomato-flavored or Celery-flavored, sure, but bacon? They shouldn't even want to know what that tastes like.

There is a lot of stuff like that, it is basically a 'transition' food,  to ease them in, for example someone who is going vegetarian after years of being a carnivore. Sanitarium (now under the Vegi Delights label) made quite a few products, 'Not Bacon' (Obvious), 'Henchen (spelling) rolls' (Chicken), 'Smoked deli slices' (Meat slices) and on and on, there is quite a few different ones around.

Most people do, a lot don't like to admit it, every time you eat vegetables or fruit, you 're eating vegetarian food. Over here in Australia 'Real men eat meat' what ever that means, I like to put a different spin on the saying when ever I hear it, it's generally not well received though

I suppose trying to be a "Real Man" (with my love for steaks) simply backfired on me......ended with getting gout. Now I'm a meat eating vegetarian.

Hi,

Was gonna say that Becan just got competition!!!!

Oregon State University scientists develop bacon-flavored seaweed
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - What grows quickly, is packed with protein, has twice the nutritional value of kale and tastes like bacon? The answer, according to scientists at Oregon State University, is a new strain of seaweed they recently patented.

I'm a vegan except for eggs (an "eggan" if you will) and I've always hated any of this fake meat crap. If you really want a meat taste, just go ahead and eat meat, it won't kill you. I once tried a box of pasta shells that came with a "fake cheese" sauce and it tasted how I imagine the liquid at the bottom of the trash can to taste. There is so much great tasting (and substantial) vegan food if you know how to cook it, I've never understood people who become vegan then cram these disgusting fake meats down their necks.

I like medium boiled sprinkled with garlic powder/salt/hot sauce, english muffin with marg/butter and cream cheese... but the rest is the same.

Well if that's coffee... change it to orange pekoe tea (milk and sugar). Not because I don't love coffee but it was killing me and now is the perfect way to ruin my day (and guts... and ticker... and brain).

I'm actually partial to a nice cup of cocoa in the morning. I use cacao powder (posh cocoa - meh) and warm almond milk. Packed full of antioxidants and really gets the blood moving.

Re: Bacon-flavored seaweed 2015/07/16 18:23:59 (permalink)
Almond milk is awesome but out of my price range (and I don't think I've even seen it in the grocery stores in this town). Considering my docs are telling me to cram myself full of cow juice (which is still bloody expensive) I gotta focus on that.

I am ending up with extra bags (Canucker so milk comes in bags up here which I'v ebeen told is a strange concept to americans) that are still "good" for tea but too old to really slam large glasses of and drinking previously frozen milk is nasty too so I just freeze it for my emergency tea milk... BUT!!!

Now I'm researching how to make various cheeses at home. Since it's whole milk it'll totally work. I can already make certain types of cheese with what I have around here because I always keep vinegar around but that doesn't make the melty type cheese I lurvs. So I need to find out where the heck in this town I can buy some liquid rennet. That's the only special ingredient you need for mozzarella which is fine with me.

I was even twisting myself up about where to find cheesecloth for straining out the whey... but I had an epiphany. J-Cloths!!! Which I keep around for the usual reasons and they are cheap/easy to get. I googly moogley's to see if they were an acceptable replacement for cheesecloth and lo and behold... tons of folks using them. I have a decent collander and a couple large pots so bingo bango... I can make cheese (at least the crumbly kind until I can find some rennet).

Might as well. I'll always have those extra bags of milk around anyway that I won't want to slam due to age (but are still good).
