Bad Moon Rising (CCR cover)

Hi,
I couldn't resist to do a CCR cover since I picked my first guitar riffs from their records when I was a kid.
I hope John C. Fogerty will forgive...

https://soundcloud.com/user9149108/bad-moon-rising

I did this for mixing practice purposes, so your comments will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Daniel

    Cool cover.

Was gonna complain about the megaphone sound in the first lines... but then it got really cool sounding.

No crits on the mix as I'm listening with earbuds.

One of my favorites by CCR. I too learned many of their tunes.

Nice cover, you certainly made this your own. Nice guitar solo..... fat tone.... loved it.

I think this would be how Bryan Adams would cover this too.

I played in a house band many years back. This was one of the tunes in our sets. And.... yup..... the ladies rest room was on the right..... "Girl, there's a bathroom on the right"......

Hi Daniel ,  that sounded very fresh to me
    loved your arrangement ...
you took a lot of liberty , thought out side the box , gave this a BIG sound and owned it
while I was listening my mind started to wander and I actually was able to imagine that I was listening and watching a concert television show like Austin City Limits ...and this is what the band was playing in concert live in front of an audience on TV...
    great job

    Thanks for all your feedback!
Sorry for late reply... ...working all day...

...no crits on the mix ? so I guess it tranlsates reasonable ? (I'm never sure...)

I'm glad you accept the arrangement. I just played it a bit slower to start with and realized that
all of sudden the lyrics came across much more dramatic. The original version sounds rather tongue
in cheek. I think the lyrics are more up to date then ever, looking at our planet in these times of
global warming,("...rivers overflowing") revolutions, conflicts, financel crisis,("...one eye
taken for an eye") and so on... there are bad moons rising on regular basis.

bapu, do you mean the very first opening lines? Those are frogs insects and nightbirds recorded in
a swamp area. It took me ages to train them. Not to mention how hard it was to find megaphones in
their sizes... :) Thanks for listening !!! (...with earbuds)

John, I'm glad to hear you like the mix. Like mentioned above, I can never really tell when a mix
is "finished", so I just posted it like it is.

The Band19, ...thanks for directions! ...found it. ooops! it's the *lady's room... :)
The suprisefactor was what I was aiming for. ...yeah Creedence songs offer so much possibilities
    for all kind of versions.

timidi, after listening to your great productions, I feel kind of honoured to hear this compliment
    coming from you. Thanx!

Guitarhacker, thanks for your comment! ...happy you dig it! I think when doing a cover version you
should always do it in your own way. And yeah the guitarsolo was indeed a lot of fun to play. I'm
not exactly the fastest guitarist around, so I was trying to pack as much badness as possible into
    a few notes.
(and...I should have been warned that *it's on the right ...now I know :)

Kenny, this is so cool that you visualize this great venue in context with this track. I'ts a
musicians dream to play there. Unfortunately it's not broadcasted here in Europe, but I just
checked some of the line up. Wow!
    Thank you!

Rikkie, bedankt! I just love "playing producer" with all the toys and possibilities we have in the
world of DAWs. Sometimes it works and if it doesn't, just start all over again. It's an endless
    learning process.

Wookie, ...yes it is ;) brilliant comment :))
Actually John C. Fogerty still owns the rights. I left the the melody intact.
    Thanks for listening! :)

twisted6s, thank you very much !!! your comment is highly appreciated!

Once again gentlemen, thank you all for listening and commenting on my interpretation of Bad Moon
    Rising!
...and as I'm looking out my back door, I see a big fat yellow full moon creeping over the roofs of
Amsterdam right now ...and I'm thinking: should I go out for a little while...? hmmm...

Daniel, I think John Fogerty would be very much pleased with what you did with his tune. You put your own very creative twist to this - it's really very cool.

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for your positive feedback!

Champchas,  I've  never been really confident about my singing attempts, so I'm double happy about your comment. Thanks a lot !

Clintmartin, ...Yeah, what's the use of copying something that's already done by the original artist. Even when doing cover versions live, I would always give it the style of the                     band I'm playing with. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!

Mark, ...I do wonder indeed what comment the man himself would give about it.  Maybe I should post it on his website... or maybe not such a good idea...
                Anyway, thanks for the compliment!

Once again Gentlemen, thank you for listening and commenting!

I've had another couple of listens today actually Daniel, and this is really growing on me. I love all the extra 'transitional' chords you've used (over and above the original's basic arrangement around the I-IV-V chords) to add texture and interest to an old classic.

The masterstroke you've pulled off though is slowing the song down to allow these added chords to really ring out.

And finally, I can listen to a version of this tune without immediately thinking about An American Werewolf In London, although it's still a great film

yeah, I've seen the movie back than. And I was tempted to add a howling wolf to the outro, but than I said to myself: "Daniel, don't do this! It's just too cliche"

Actually by slowing down the tempo, a lot of possibilities opened up to lay down some chords under that rather simple melody to give the song a bit more tension.

Thanks for taking the time to listen again!  : )

An interesting arrangement.  While I played many CCR tunes in many nightclubs in many different states.... I was never a huge fan, but this was one of my favorite CCR tunes, so I kind of miss the up-tempo vibe.  You have to admit Foggerty is performing trouper and has a very commercial appeal and rightly deserves is claim to fame.

Well recorded and sang as always.

    Daryl,

I see your point, missing the up-tempo vibe. I absolutley do love the original version. That was the way it was ment to be and that's how it became a classic. I've never meant to out-produce John Fogerty's version (how could I dare), just tried to approach it from a different angle.

    Thanks for listening and commenting!

    Agreed, very nice arrangement!

Very nice arrangement of this tune.  The recording is very nicely done too.  Rob (Batsbrew) did a very nice job on covering this too.  Wow, your guitar is sooooooo great.  I really do like your interpretation of this song.  I think I like it better than CCR.  Is that sacrilegious?  Everything about this is nicely done.

I just got back from California (...played a cool gig last Sunday afternoon at the Sweetwater Musichall in Mill Valley...)  and haven't looked at this forum for a couple of weeks.
Being back in Amsterdam today, to my surprise I find some new responses on Bad Moon after a month from posting it.

PJH, I have to say I'm slightly blown away by your feedback ; )  ...Thanks, Peter!

Lynn, thanks a lot for listening and comment, I really appreciate it !

evadianepug, ...well, receiving a compliment here for guitar playing made me blush for a moment, since there are so many better guitar players around here...
( ...sacrilegious? In my first post I've asked for forgiveness by John Fogerty, so I hope that'll have us covered)
Thank's, Warren!  (btw, thanks for the hint to the Batsbrew version...got to check it out...)

    All the best!

This sounds awesome , I love that you slowed it down, it`s got a great groove.
