Bait and Switch: It's Not All Bad

A couple of my kids were killing time in a local Guitar Center the other day.  One was checking out the used gear and found a lefty guitar for $30.  He showed it to his brother and they decided to buy it for their youngest brother.  The salesguy took it away and said, "Oh, I forgot that this one's already been sold."  They asked if there were any other used guitars for that price.  The salesguy checked and said that there was nothing else.  A few minutes later, the manager came by and offered a used Fender Squire Showmaster Rally Stripe guitar that he said he'd sell for $30.

They tried it out and decided to buy it.  The manager included a one year warrenty and a stand that brought the price tag up just over $50 with tax.  They gave the guitar to their younger brother as a birthday present.  He loves it.

I know the guitar is not one of the legendary great ones, but it's perfect for a kid who's learning to play.  The neck is a little wider than his other guitar and he finds it easier to play as a result.

I told my kids to be wary of bait and switch tactics in general, but said that in this case, I believed the manager gave them a good deal.  I also thought it was great gift and was quite generous of them.  I'm not a guitarist, but my youngest is very happy with it.

I tend to be vary of anyone selling anything as the majority of them are only interested in making the buck, but it looks like the GC they went to aren't in that catagory.

He frequently asks me to jam with him.  He'll crank up his amp and just start playing.  I'll jump in there and follow his lead. Fun times.

Very cool indeed to be jamming with your son. That's a bond that'll be priceless. My 3 little ones are 7, 5, & 3 and I've got them a 45 key casio keyboard which they all like to play. My 7 yr. old is actualy following some of the lessons the keyboard offers and is practicing on her own. Right now. the only jam we have is on my son's PBJ.

I've often wished I had a video of me an my son doing Johnny B Goode at his very first guitar recital. The event coordinator asked me if I wanted to play bass with my son. I of course jumped at the opportunity.

    Yes, I used my Alembic.

Speaking of video taping our children, that's something I've been doing in general day to day life (just to capture those "special" moments). Once I get my new rig built, I'll be very busy transfering about 7 years of material.

You guys should post some audio of you jamming with your boys. :)

It would have been nice to have a video of that.  You can still make a video of you and the Alembic.
