Since Cakewalk got itself a new head chef it's hard to know who the bakers are now. There may not be enough bakers left around to have the time to hang out in the forum. I hope it's because they are all hard at work making sure that we have a great X2b to install soon. But it is true that some of the most frequent visitors from the kitchen are indeed gone and will not be heard from again.

Hi, Andrew. I'm sure you guys are getting sick of seeing this question but is an X2b patch coming? The reason I ask is I've been holding off installing the A patch because I've been doing other stuff and because 308 is functioning well enough for the minimal tinkering I am doing. I FINALLY have a back up drive so I'm contemplating installing the A patch now that I can make a proper system image beforehand but if B is imminent I'll wait. Cheers.

Beepster - I still think I would go ahead and install X2a now - it is really quite stable for many, many folks. And, as long as you save off any user content you created prior to uninstall of X2a to go back to X2, it's really no big deal to clean out the registry and folder remnants from X2a and install a nice new copy. Less than an hour. The benefits of X2a would be in the large number of fixes and enhancements they made. It's really nice. AND I PROMISE, if you want to undo an X2a install to go back to X2, I will give you y cell number and have you call me whenever you want and I will work through the whole process for you over the phone - no problem. Same here. Please take as much time as you need to get X2b to be the phenomenal, world-class, ass-kicking DAW it very nearly is in X2a. After that, enhancements, sure, but only at no expense to rock solid stability, intrinsic functions, and interoperability. That philosophy will win DAW market share more than anything else... IMHO. Please, please, please test at great length and recruit whatever beta testers you can to achieve the most solid Sonar release ever. My 2p... P.S. - Also got a control surface message today from Cakewalk for a ticket about LED meters in the Mackie Control protocol (an old ticket from 8.5.3), but the LED meters are working beautifully in X2a.

I just got a message a few days ago about a problem I reported a few months ago. Then a day later a note that they are unable to reproduce. Sigh. I replied telling them I was not surprised as my recipe involved lots of small clips and slip edits over as many as 6-8 take lanes and lots of time starting and stopping playback while editing takes and soloing using the mute solo tool. oh well I just built a new computer perhaps I will not see the problem anymore.

I just received confirmation yesterday of a CWBRN bug report I submitted a while ago as 'Fixed'. So I guess they're still busy polishing things, which is good. Let's be patient, I'm sure something will be along. Meanwhile, it's still a great DAW and I love using it every day.

Yeah... I've received a number of confirmations and the likes (submitted to development) in the last week... so Im guessing that they've gone thru these issues and are preparing to release an update (X2b?).... At least I like to think of it that way as I'm so in need of an update.... Unless they haven't fixed/changed Lanes enuf for any real difference here as that is still my biggest problem with X2a.... Lane issues... So, here's hoping for the best! (and that my electricity is still on long enuf to realize it ;-)) Keni

Bob Bone This post is very late but thanks for the offer, Bob. You are a kind and generous soul. I should be alright now that I have the back up drive. I've got more than enough room for multiple full images so I can return to any state I choose. Not having that capability was really tying my hands but real life beckoned so the money could not be spared. Now that I know more about how everything works I intend to do a complete wipe of the system and reinstall everything (after backing up everything I want to keep and making an image of things as they are). I kind of made a mess of things by not paying attention to where audio was being sent when I'd do "Save As". I'd always create a new folder on my E drive when starting a project but didn't realize that it would default back to the C drive during Save As so now I've got things willy nilly all over the place as well as tons of empty and "test" folders. One thing I gotta figure out though is how to set up the ideal default save settings. I know how to actually do it but I'm not sure of the most effective set up. I was under the impression that the best way was to to have the project data saved to the C programs drive and then have the audio saved to a seperate drive (in my case E drive). However I've seen more than a few smart fellows here says that BOTH the project data and the audio data should be saved to the E drive leaving the C drive to only run the actual program. Not sure if this is correct but I'm gonna research it more. I also have another issue where my darned E drive keeps falling asleep on me despite the fact I THOUGHT I had set Windows up to not do that (nothing else falls asleep on my system except the E drive). Just little things like that. It's good for me to mess with too because I need to learn but without a proper back up option I was terrified to mess with anything lest I break something. Whatevs... totally off topic but I'm taking a break from some theory studies and thought I'd say thanks for the offer and blather on for a little while. ;-p

Oh... and I do hope these fixes being discussed are going to be part of a patch and not a paid upgrade. I really like X2 and have invested a lot of time learning it so I think I'm going to stick with it for a while. They'd have to do something really spectacular with X3 to make want to upgrade early like I did with X2. It's just a very fine program for my purposes. Cheers.

Keni : "I've received a number of confirmations and the likes (submitted to development) in the last week... " Does this mean that Cakewalk is just now getting around to looking at them ? If so, I don't see this as an indication that a patch will be arriving any time soon. At least not one containing fixes to these issues.
