Balsphemer I Am.

Yes I am now up to two products on a iLok.

I just might covert all available plugs to it.

Balsphemer... does that mean you'll need exorcism or just a good talking-to?

Sadly I too have moved over to the dark side.

I pulled the trigger today updating to Reason 5 and Record duo, in order to qualify for the Reason 6 upgrade.

This means I will have to plug in their 'ignition key' to run Record and/or Reason 6.

    Blech...

I have one for Pro Tools and hate it... even though it just sits in my DAW. I swear it added a thin layer of spludge to my system and slowed it down a tiny tiny bit.

I'd buy the latest Wavelab if it wasn't for the dongle... sadly No.

Just so you know Bapu, if I need install one of those thingies to read your posts, it's not going to happen.

I'll be forced to read the cracked posts instead.

    Just sayin'.

I know I'm not going to like it.  Just out of principle even it has no detrimental effect on my machine.

Trouble is Reason has been such a staple for me I'm left with the choice of completely going with a new way of working or swallowing it.

Being as I'm already on the upgrade path and the latest version is almost a no-brainer cost wise I'm choosing to swallow it for now knowing that I can heave it up again if it really is that unpalatable.  I have a UAD card which is like a dongle but at least it provides some DSP power to the plug-ins that use it and I haven't had any problems with that.

For native plugs though fortunately there are still plenty of options that work perfectly well without one.

I do feel like I've HAD to capitulate though.

I still have resisted thus far.

So far I've only been vaugely tempted by Waves sales and I would kind of like to have Ivory.  but so far I've not been tempted enough for any of that to make me cave in.

JB, I just bought Reason 5, as well...at a brick and mortar, and it came in a box... No dongle. But I didn't get Record... That mean I won't be eligible for the upgrade? That would seriously bum me out. But honestly, I've been wanting it forever. I don't care for the overall arrangement of the thing, but what it DOES and how it SOUNDS... Oh MY. I will still use Sonar, of course. I think of it more as a multi- necked instrument or something.....

Yeah, you need a monitor that's about three feet tall to use Reason best - lol!

Unfortunately, the trend is shorter and wider monitors (just like people I guess)... Oh well.

You'll get the upgrade for $99 as I understand it.  Which probably works out the same or similar as getting the duo now and qualifying for the FREE upgrade.

I've always used it as a complement to Sonar something akin to Komplete or some such rather than a replacement although with the audio features in Record and now Reason 6 it may well prompt me to start using Sonar's Studio editions rather than Producer in the future.

Time will tell, but whatever I will certainly need to keep a VST capable DAW on stream.

This represents a better value upgrade offering greater capability to me than 8.5 to X1 would have been, and I didn't have the budget for both.

Here's the full update details for the new version.

Craig, I think in Sweden (where Propellerhead is) they must still be tall and thin.... ;) Thanks, JB! I made the decision for Reason over X1 (actually, over Producer, rather, as I'm still on Studio) for the same reason (haha). I like the functionality of Sonar in a recording environment... Can't beat the slip editing, love the groove looping... But I wanted something.... Different. so yeah. I've really enjoyed working with it so far, but will stick with the ease of Sonar (at least for me) for pulling it all together. Thanks for the info... My Swedish Producer-man promised I could get the upgrade... May have to have a little chat with him... :D

Reason copes on a shorter monitor better than Pro-Channel does...

Is anyone going to let Bapu know it's spelled "Blasphemer?" 2011/08/20 00:14:48 (permalink)
I don't care, I'm using all of it (plus all my work related rationalizations) to help justify getting a Dell 30" monitor (eventually).  Since it's resolution is 2560 x 1600, I can even add my two old 21.3" SyncMasters to each side for a nice, panaramic 4960 x 1600!!!!

    *sigh*

Ok, back to reality, I've got some work to do...  bah.

Don't have one so I don't know, but there are monitors that rotate (if you're into that):

Both of my SyncMasters came designed to rotate, however ALL monitors can be rotated that have the universal mounting holes on the back.  Even though the monitor I'm currently using came with a stand that allowed 90 degrees of rotation, I now have it mounted directly to one of those readily available monitor holders that clamp onto your desk and allow you to move, tilt and rotate your monitor any way you want.  They are SO versatile that I doubt I'll ever want to use the stand that comes with a monitor again.

Oh yeah, the reason this works so well is that most of the newer video cards now support rotation natively (both of mine are over five years old and do).  So all I need to do is click on the little icon in the system tray or use a hot-key combination (which is what I set mine up to use) and, boom, the display has been rotated.

The only thing I wish was available are "smaller" monitors (i.e., those under 42") with extremely small bezels so you can use more than one without a huge "line" in-between each.  I've spent quite a few hours researching this and just don't understand why it hasn't been done yet.
