When I spoke with the BB support staff way back, over some question I had..and I explained the process I was using.... they also mentioned that Real Band was a sequencer/mixer and I could do everything I needed right there.... (kept my thoughts and comments to myself) .

I agree that the sequencer/mixer aspect of BB/RB is not as good as MC so I continue to use MC.  The only reason I use RB is because that is where the RT's are created.

Sometimes, when BB & RB don't "play it right" I use copy and paste from another part of the song that was played right. Just used that on a song the other day.... all the parts had a chord that didn't fit... the chart said D7 but it sure wasn't a D7 in the tracks..... copy and paste and life is good.

I'll likely be posting this new song for review later today...I have to record the entire guitar track today.

Definitely, 'cherry picking' the good bits is the best policy.

That's where Realband really scores (no pun) in that BIAB will generate in a repeating block type fashion but the final layout can be done in a more linear way in RB after that and you can still generate new versions of your tracks on the fly, reflecting any layout changes you will have made at this stage.

Then when you are happy with that you can move all the elements you want into your DAW of choice.

When you guys installed BIAB, did you put all of the content on one drive or did you split it up (Programs on one drive & the sample content on another drive)?

After I downloaded it all and installed it, I let the BIAB software dictate where it was to be installed which was my  (C:) drive.

A few days later I also installed a 3rd HD (F:) which is dedicated for samples. The other two drives I have are C: (software programs) & D: (Cakewalk Projects). So my question is, should I move all the sample content from the C: to the F: drive?

you can if you want to, but you'll need to tell BIAB where you moved it.  all you will want to move would be the Real Tracks and Real Drums, tho, nothing else.  and then you'll need to redirect BIAB's place to find them.  I don't remember right now how to do that, tho.  but the instructions are on the PG forums in the "FAQS and TIPS" I think.

I went into Real Band today and I still dont get it.  It feels like it has an inferior interface to Sonar and the one thing it does that Sonar does not is that it renders midi drums to real drums.  In my case I prefer to use the midi track through Jamstix and then BFD to get a more human feel so real drums does not help me.  Does Real Band do anything else that Sonar does not?

as I mentioned before I create my song first in BIAB then open the song in Real Band so that I can add/delete more real tracks as I desire.  BIAB does not allow substitution of real tracks for each track (that I'm aware of anyway) and you can't simply add more or less real tracks in BIAB - you have to have the sequencer RB to do that.  but you can't just use sonar for the real tracks until you've gotten real band to stretch the real tracks to your style, key and time signature and tempo.

for clarification:  I don't use Real Band as a sequencer.  I use it to add/subtract Real Tracks for export.  then import those into sonar.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but they extended the sale through Jan 15th. I think I'm getting another bout of GAS.

I had BandintheBox years ago; just a simple midi program as you all know;

Well, now it's really quite the program; with the addition of real tracks; and I've used the sax parts on some of my stuff. pretty amazing.

But.........having said that....Does anyone record their own parts anymore?
As great as this program is, where does it go from here?

Will I be recording my voice in the future, and pressing a button, and having presets to sound like Mariah Carey or Michael Bolton.

It's amazing yet worrisome at the same time.
Don't mind me; Just an old guy rambling.

The way I rationalize it is that I use BIAB for instruments I dont play.  Therefore it is no different to having a session player- just a hell of a lot cheaper.  Even the most talented professional musician will use session players.  So that is all this is for me.  In the future, a product like this will broaden the market for music making by pulling in the talentless who cannot sing, etc.  But that is good.  More people making music is always good.  I just think that for us amateur musicians this is a huge boon because we can finally afford session players on our home made tunes.

I think it is possible to copy the drums midi data out of BB..... I don't often do that but I think I recall doing it once.... You have to use real band to show the midi...then just copy it and paste it into Sonar......

I find that with the ability to render to real drums, the options are so varied that I'm sure to find a kit and style that I like..... in BB.

EDIT TO ADD:  YEAH on the separate drives... I have all my apps on the main drive and a dedicated storage/sample drive where ALL my sample libraries are located..... just do a custom install and install the libraries where you want them.

Hi Gang

Wanted to chime in here and say I got 2011 as well.
What a great practice tool, since I no longer have a band to jamm with!

And for the record; I write with Reason and Record.
My DAW has been Samplitude ( since 2007 )

Wanted to share the first song I have done with BIAB.  Can you guess which instruments come from the program?  Song is Charming Man.
