I might go see Michael Buble just for fun.  Not especially fond of his voice, but I love big band music. *Stompin at the Savoy* is one of my faves and I'm writing a piece loosely reliant on it's themes.

You might not...he's put his career on hold following his young son's cancer diagnosis.

Ugh, Cancer!  Here in PDX the research is going pretty quickly on this class of diseases.  If I get that diagnosis I'm going to remain optimistic till the end.  We're so close on so many fronts.

Frank Gambale is in Melbourne Australia right now and as I know him I got to see his concerts at Birds Basement here. He is doing this cool lounge gig with his wife Boca. Vocal based music that is not fusion based. Very nice indeed. Frank holding back is really something. The solos are very melodic and thoughtful. The band is killer indeed. I thought Guthrie Govan held the super taste and melodic playing thing until I heard this. This changed my mind big time.

    Hi,

This area does not get much of anything, so there is a possibility that I might not get to see a whole lot.

It's kinda sad to see so many things listed, and almost none of those will ever get here to Portland.

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

I plan to hang out here and get reports from all the cool concerts. I cannae afford to actually buy a concert ticket.

Nobody ever comes up here of any import anymore so I try to get over to Copper Country at Copper Mountain at least each fall. Saw Diamond Reo and Jo De Messina there before but this last year nobody I knew but good players and a punchy FOH nevertheless.

I get down the mountain to Red Rocks when there is someone one of us wants to see but as we get older it's kinda like meh.

    I can relate to that!

I live in a conurbation of around 120,000 and there is not one decent music venue. Its a 60 to 80 mile round trip to the closer venues and its 90% tribute bands. Once in a blue moon the theater may have a band.

In the 70's we had half a dozen venues and used to get big names.

I have seen Waters several times and the performances were always ... interesting?

That said, I was at Desert Trip and Waters was the last performer after Dylan, Young, the Stones, McCartney and The Who.  The sound system and stage effect were unbelievable to the point that he really had the potentially to recreate The Wall live (I think it is something he has been trying to do since '79).  There were floating pigs, factories the sound was moving through the PA truly re-creating the audible illusions on the albums.  The last half of the concert degenerated into a hate filled political rally ... yes, I know it was Waters and fully expected some political commentary but this was off the rails to the point it made me uncomfortable.  People were leaving in droves.
